About this listen

As if things couldn't get any worse, Arthur is trying to survive yet another dreadful shift at the Hammy Burger when a supervillain barges in and takes him as a hostage. It's clear, from the get-go, that this villain is a poor schmuck who just happened on a dose of ChemX.

And so, in an attempt to save the poor bastard from the consequences of his foolish actions, Arthur tries to convince him to surrender. But when the caped cavalry arrives, something happens and Arthur is exposed to a leak of the mysterious chemical substance.

Unfortunately, superpowers do not pay the rent, and he still has to juggle four jobs to make ends meet. And Arthur will be reversed to his former self if he doesn't prove himself worthy of the gift.

To do that, he will have to take part in the famed Combine—aka the Meatgrinder. He will have to join the trials to be accepted in one of the most famous superhero guilds in Eon City: Heroes United. Failure means he'll get dechemed and reverted back to his lousy and broke self.

If he is to have any kind of chance to prevail, Arthur must level up his skills and gain new abilities. But what is a rookie meta like him to do?

Disclosure, I love positive super-hero stories. I don't mind the gritty dark stuff and I stomach the ”power corrupts” stories (like ”The Boys”). This is corrupt top hero (not Homelander level) with protagonist gaining powers accidentally and working to keep them in a system where he'd be legally stripped. It has a touch of LitRPG (character decides on upgrades from a tree and knows his stats). Apart from that, it's not too gamey.

The protagonist's mindset quite Peter Parker with aspirations to improve the lives of the unluckiest people of his city.

I'd recommend to anyone that enjoys a fun super-hero romp.

Great moral super hero fun with hint of LitRPG

I really liked this book really had me believing in the city and the heros in it as publicity boards doing it all for fame recognition and contracts. it's not as gritty but it has its moments.

Went by a bit quickly but not bad.

I enjoy superhero and villain books. Both are great. this was good enough for me to purchase book 2.

good pacing
good narrator
good writing
although I didn't agree with Arthur's power choices, it's not my book..

I could do with some more overpowered options, make MC a bit more special. but so far its a good story with some balanced narratives a somewhat smart MC.

It was a good story. ill get book 2

A fun story of a super hero underdog. Didn’t expect such a relatively mundane ability to be so much fun.

Lots of fun
