About this listen

Before you plan your wedding, plan your marriage! Wish you could know what you’re getting into when you say “I do”? Now, with Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married, you can. Dr. Gary Chapman, #1 New York Times best-selling author of The 5 Love Languages™, has spent the last thirty-five years counseling couples. In Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married, he shares what he and these couples have learned from experience. Among the twelve things you should know: that being in love is not enough to make a successful marriage, that romantic love has two stages (and how to make the transition), that mutual sexual fulfillment is not automatic, and that personality profoundly affects behavior. The stakes on marriage are high, but the rewards of preparing are even higher. Whether you’re single or dating, this audio can be your relationship blueprint and help you decide if and when you’re ready to tie the knot. If you’re engaged, even recently married, it will help you examine your relationship foundation and learn the skills necessary for building a successful marriage. Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married was written to help you realize your goal of marital happiness. But don’t just listen to it - experience it. Grapple with the practical tips and ideas discussed, honestly share your thoughts and feelings, respect each other’s opinions, and find workable solutions to your differences. The more you do so, says Chapman, the more you will be prepared for marriage.

Loved all about it

Personally, I really like the way that this book is written. I also love the narrator. The book touches every important part of marriage and how human development, and upbringing relates to it. What should we be aware of stepping into a dating world and the importance of self awareness and acceptance prior to marriage and/ or relationships. I have read/listened to this book 3times and keep
Coming back to it when I need a reminder and some guidance going through my own life. I have also suggested the book to friends and even randomly met people who hopefully benefited from the book on some level. The main idea of premarital counseling that was brought up throughout this book is something I wish I would have understood the importance of before I got married (for the second time)

You will definitely not loose anything by investing some time in listening to this book, and most likely you will gain something. Some more than others.
Grateful I came across this read!

What did you like best about this story?

I think what I like best about it is going back into the early married life, the stories he shared and the lessons learned. It was a mix of humor and stories told.

Must have for every person who is, wants or wish to be married!

I have been divorced for already 9 years and I am finally dating someone that I do feel may lead to a new marriage.
I have learned and reviewed over these years a lot of things that I did wrong or that we did wrong at my failed marriage, but this book is a wide eye opener to any couple!
I would really love to give copies of it to two loved married cousins and their wife’s, I already recommended the book to my boyfriend and I hope that if we get more serious, to go over it again as a working book and part of our preparation.
This could definitely be a marriage changer if both partners agree to follow it! I think it’s never to late when you really love and want your marriage to succeed! ♥️
