Invaluable Tools - Heaavy on Religion

What did you like best about this story?

Everything that people are saying about the book is true. Love Emerson's voice, love the advice, can't wait to put it into use. In fact I have started following the advice and already see some change. Now I just need my boyfriend to read the book and hopefully see some major improvements in our relationship.

Any additional comments?

I am not a religious person, in fact I do not believe in God. When the book first started, I rolled my eyes every time he mentioned the Bible (he quotes scripture throughout). I guess I did not realize he is a pastor. I had to reframe my thinking to get through the book, so when he mentioned the Bible I thought, "The book of morals, the book of morals!" Because that's what the Bible is, essentially, a guide to the right (righteous)/moral way to live. If you are also non-religious, I suggest skipping the last hour (Audible chapters 28-30, book chapter 23). These chapters are simply telling you, the listener, to follow his guide because the Lord commands you based on his interpretation of the Bible. This does not help me.

Otherwise, the book was great. If you are an ultra FEMINIST, you must listen with a very open mind and take from it what you'd like. I am a feminist myself, but do believe that men and woman are built differently and have very different needs. This book definitely opened my eyes to how a man thinks. He described how I think and how my boyfriend thinks to a T. Religious, feminist, or not, I think everyone should hear his message.

Wonderful advice, but TOO Christian-heavy

I loved the message and advice in regards to relationship building. Lots of great narratives, insight and content. However, all the content is way too heavily reliant on on being a "believer" or Christian to the point where he continually refers to non-Christians as "unbelievers" - a bit intimidating if you ask me.

Good book, bad delivery.

The book itself was great! However, the reader laughs the whole time while he’s talking. It’s rather annoying, but eventually you’ll get used to it.

Eye Opening

After trying to work with me for years, my wife finally decided to take a break to find herself. It was the best thing she could do. I found this book. At first i found it bias towards the husband. The more i read, the more aha moments i had. It explained my feelings and helped me to understand a lot. It also helped me understand what i was doing to hurt my wife. I can’t wait to test it out.

Amazing Insight on Respect in a Marriage

I had come to understand the concept of unconditional love, but his message on respect was an eye opener!

Great relationship book

At first I was a little bit skeptical about the book because of it's religious point of view. But as I listened and managed to put aside the religion from it, I have discovered that it have an interesting ideology.

Woman is made to love, want to love, and expect love
Man is made to be respected, want respect, and expect respect

Because we speak and act according to our personal point of view on the world, there is a crazy cycle going on between men and women in relationships. She wants love and offers love, while he wants respect and offers respect.

I recommend this book to men and women as well. If you have difficulties with the Bible part, just focus on the idea

For me listening to it was easier than reading it. But I loved it. I cannot overstate the importance of reading this book.

Another way to improve marriage- with Christ at the helm

I have done many a book and program on family relations. This has a unique perspective that offers new insights. Truthfully many of his concepts were a breath of fresh air. And I am so grateful he has taken the time to share his knowledge.

God used this book to save my marriage! I understand a lot more! I am hopeful again that I can have a godly marriage!
