The first book in the series called, The Taggarts, is an exciting fantasy fiction novel that explains how the nation of Taggarts or Tags began. This creative narrative in the land of Asteria, takes you through the story of Bar the dwarf as he goes from being a traveling dwarf, to one who no longer wishes to travel, but rather settle down. He is a bowman with skill beyond belief and meets some young elf girls who have some skills of their own. Being chased by elves and dwarves sent by the evil stepfather of Tami, an elf girl, these three go on an adventure of a lifetime that none of them will ever forget.

The Taggart series is a selection of stories that happen in the world of Asteria and follow a family line. We couldn’t stop listening!

My son and I absolutely loved this! We listened one morning and only stopped because we had somewhere we had to be! When he woke the next morning, he quickly asked to keep listening and truth be told, I really wanted to find out what happened to Bar and the others!

The story moves along at a great pace with some surprising turns. I love how the author included/was inspired by a short story of his sisters. ❤️

For an upper elementary boy and his Mama, I can say that this was a big win!!! It gave us some opportunities to discuss some character topics as well!

We can’t wait for the next one!

Great new fantasy fiction

This is a great fantasy book that has a different style. The book is fast pace, but gives plenty of detail to make you feel like you are in the moment. I love Bar the main character and love that it is written in first person.

The performance was great. The voice seemed to fit the character and definitely adds to the story. He reads relatively fast compared to other books, but definitely not too fast to follow.

The story line is good. Less of a love story and more of an epic adventure type story. The end finishes well, but kind of leaves you hanging, which is probably the point since it is the first book in a series.

Definitely recommend to anyone who likes fantasy fiction. It is clean and for all ages. Some blood, so maybe not really little kids but not bad. If you like the hobbit, or narnia you will probably like this.

I definitely recommend.

Entertaining

Very descriptive. This would be a great book to read or listen to as a family. We listened to it at one sitting on a road trip. It keep everyone’s attention. It is clean, however there is killing and physical injuries described.

I would recommend it!

Great Adventure

I really enjoyed this book especially because it was similar to the Hobbit. I think it had a good mixed of adventure along with good relationship dialogue. I can’t wait to listen to the next book!

The book is enthralling!

I loved the combination of adventure and romance. The author did a great job of making the book suspenseful! Tamie’s “gift” with animals, was a neat idea and really improved the story.

Cliched story; good narration

It’s difficult eating audiobooks because both the story and reader are judged. But here I go.

This novel did little for me. The plot was wrote, the characters bland, and the choices contrived.

That being said, Samuelson is a talented narrator with a good range as a reader. Hopefully he has a larger catalog with material better suited to his talents.
