About this listen

Some people are born boring. Some live boring. Some even die boring. Fred managed to do all three, and when he woke up as a vampire, he did so as a boring one. Timid, socially awkward, and plagued by self-esteem issues, Fred has never been the adventurous sort.

One fateful night - different from the night he died, which was more inconvenient than fateful - Fred reconnects with an old friend at his high school reunion. This rekindled relationship sets off a chain of events thrusting him right into the chaos that is the parahuman world, a world with chipper zombies, truck driver wereponies, maniacal necromancers, ancient dragons, and now one undead accountant trying his best to “survive”.

Because even after it’s over, life can still be a downright bloody mess!

Performed by Christopher Walker, Nora Achrati, Scott McCormick, Alejandro Ruiz, Bradley Smith, Carolyn Kashner, Ken Jackson, Terence Aselford, Richard Rohan, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Colleen Delany, Zeke Alton, Henry Kramer, Nanette Savard, and David Zitney.

I could see this as a tv series. Not my usual listen but I enjoyed it and it kept me entertained. I really liked the full cast and sound effects. Love the different scenarios of trouble Fred finds himself in. I’m definitely listening to the second book.

Cute and funny ( dry humor)

i enjoyed that it was an original story, even if it wasn't 100% my cup of tea it was good to hear a story that wasn't the exact same as every other story.

original!

Fun book. I usually don’t like books that feel like they are short story compilations. It is pretty well done here. I think it helps that all of the stories are good.

Nice start

Great lighthearted fantasy series. Fun adventures and lovable characters. The "Graphic Audio" version is absolutely the best!

LOVE THIS SERIES!

I read Drew's super series, and it is one of my favorite series of all times. Although I wasn't really interested in the premise, I started the series because it was Drew Hayes.

Turns out I love reading about boring vampires. spoiler, it is not boring....

Fantastic series, Drew Hayes is great

I really enjoy this format, it's like a play but for your ears. I like the Fred series. The premise of a boring vampire is super entertaining. I don't think I'd read this as a book, but as a play/radio show format, it's great.

totally entertaining

I got a dramatized adaptation & LOVED IT! Good job all around. I’ll look for more of these. I originally purchased because I enjoy this author.

Thought I was just getting another book...

This new "full cast" version is great, but I miss the voices Kirby Heyborne gave for Fred and Gideon

Maybe I'm just a stickler for details, but I am always bogged down by the bureaucratic plot holes that often exist in fantasy - I know... that's super boring of me, but it's an aspect that distracts me constantly, completely rendering suspension impossible! Happily, no such issue exists in this series... & it's probably one of the savviest in that realm I've ever personally encountered. Now, don't get me wrong, I can see how that might sound unappealing, maybe even boring, but the series itself is anything but.

Sure, the beginning might be considered slow, but it's not any different from the start of any other series. It doesn't always start you in the middle of the action, but it still manages to capture the imagination seamlessly. Listening to the amazing, full cast & sound performance just adds an extra layer of immersion I didn't even think possible for an audiobook, it's honestly so comforting! I could see myself enjoying this series over & over again!

I read some of the reviews prior to purchase & I admit that they made me hesitant at first, but the unique quality of the plot was too big a draw! The classic, smooth vampire is boring, we all know everything about THAT character!! Fred is unique & charming in an affable way, a character that is enjoyable to spend time experiencing; his fairly normal views provide a grounding, relatable look at the fantastical world he's discovering while the bureaucratic layer tailored to his knowledge creates an extra layer beneath which to suspend reality.

Fred is a modern hero, the kind any of us could be given the same circumstances & I love that about him. Besides... Crystal is the real showstopper & seeing a strong female through the eyes of Fred is something special. Just buy it, but get this version, it's gold!

Fantasy Realism Done Beautifully!
