About this listen
Return to the Invisible Library for Irene's most perilous mission yet! The Untold Story is the climactic eighth book in Genevieve Cogman's exhilarating series.
For librarian-spy Irene, this could be her last mission. She has been sent on a terrifying, dangerous task – one which must be kept secret at all costs. To eliminate Alberich.
But even more troubling news emerges. Entire worlds are disappearing, and the Library itself may have something to do with it.
To uncover the truth of these vanishing worlds, Irene and her friends must descend into the unplumbed depths of the Library. What they find will change everything . . .
The Untold Story is the unputdownable eighth book in the Invisible Library series of fantasy novels by Genevieve Cogman.
Genevieve is also the author of Scarlet, a Sunday Times bestselling novel. Set during the French revolution, it is a spellbinding tale of magic, vampires and chaos, written with her trademark wit and pace.
Praise for the series:
'I absolutely loved this' – N. K. Jemisin, author of The Fifth Season
'Irene is a great heroine: fiery, resourceful and no one's fool' – The Guardian
'Cogman keeps upping the ante on this delightful series!' – Charles Stross, author of the Merchant Princes series

I decided that Orion Lake needed to die after the second time he saved my life. Everyone loves Orion Lake. Everyone else, that is. Far as I’m concerned, he can keep his flashy combat magic to himself. I’m not joining his pack of adoring fans. I don’t need help surviving the Scholomance, even if they do. Forget the hordes of monsters and cursed artifacts; I’m probably the most dangerous thing in the place. Just give me a chance and I’ll level mountains and kill untold millions, making myself the dark queen of the world.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Intrigue, sabotage, conspiracy, mystery.
Over the year that it took me to digest the entire literary series I found myself fully engaged and immersed in the world(s) of lead characters Irene, Kai, and Vale. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and a touch of fantasy. It’s not as fantastical as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings in it’s fantasy narrative but it does dip far enough into that realm to stand uniquely on its own and secure its spot within the genre. What I truly loved about this book is that while romance was involved it did not tarnish the protagonists character or values. She consistently acted in line with what her character profile was set to from the beginning. I was surprised and vaguely uncomfortable with the deeper dive into the romance portion of the story in the final book. I am grateful that it was brief. I would have loved a stronger ending with a more meaningful backstory to the greatest protagonists of the series, but other reviews have me guessing that perhaps I missed something along the way. However, this minor gap in my satisfaction leads me to give this book and series a 4 out of 5 stars. Well written, keenly intricate but not too detailed as to lose the readers interest, and refreshing in the narrative as a whole. Would and will absolutely recommend to others.

Sound Production Issues
I have loved listening to this series. I do prefer the original narrator over the new one but still enjoyed the books. This last book had terrible sound production, however. I was continuously adjusting the volume because some characters were overly quiet while others overly loud. It was quite frustrating. The story was good and a lovely closing to such a wonderful series.

Smart Mature Fantasy Series
I thoroughly enjoyed the Invisible Library series and The Untold Story was a well thought out conclusion. The intertwining stories of the fae, human and dragon legacies behind the Library origins and the mission of the library were deftly woven throughout the series.
