During the last year of her life, my grandmother started writing a story about a young girl named Neva. This book is my way of finishing it. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

When Michael Moorcock began chronicling the adventures of the albino sorcerer Elric, last king of decadent Melniboné, and his sentient vampiric sword, Stormbringer, he set out to create a new kind of fantasy adventure, one that broke with tradition and reflected a more up-to-date sophistication of theme and style. The result was a bold and unique hero: a rock-and-roll antihero who would channel all the violent excesses of the '60s into one enduring archetype.

Story
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Exceeded Expectations!
I would like to start off by acknowledging Elizabeth, her writing was amazing! It was times where I forgot this was even a hero from the public domain; I oddly felt like I was in the characters shoes even though I didn’t even experience a quarter of what she’s went through😂also it’s like I could visualize everything that happens.
Secondly, I want to give Austin his props‼️this is the exact reason why I was hype for this new “Superzeros” cinematic universe you was building. Getting heros from the public domain then telling good/unique stories with them without watering nothing down or forcing a filler epidsode like marvel and dc movies been doing since 2018.
Lastly the narrator did an AMAZING JOB‼️
*And the Spider-Man Easter egg in chapter 4 was brilliant*

Incredible story
Not a huge book guy but fell in love with the whole superzeros concept. Was pleasantly surprised by just how well written and conceived this opening story was, great stuff and I hope for more installments to the spider queen story!

A thrilling reimagining of an old story
For those who don't know, this book is part of Austin McConnell's Superzeroes project, where he is trying to make a sort of "cinematic universe" out of public domain characters. Of all the characters he chose to use, the Spider-Queen was the one I was most excited to see in action (with Six-Gun Gorilla a close 2nd of course). And I must say, I was not disappointed. The story isn't mind blowing or anything, but it's certainly enjoyable, and felt fresh. If you are burned out on superhero stories, I doubt this will change your mind, but if you enjoy them I think you'll feel right at home. I also feel that the most egregious tropes of Marvel movies are thoroughly avoided, which helped my enjoyment a lot. I think the authors did an excellent job making the main characters likeable, and making Shannon's evolution into the Spider-Queen feel natural. I was also delighted to see Dr. Landor introduced, and I can't wait to see him and the Spider-Queen again in future projects.

Can’t wait for the rest of the SuperZeros!
Really decent origin story. I hope we get to meet 99 again. And it took me a while to realize who Landor is/will be!! very excited to continue in the series by Austin McConnell

A Bit Predictable But Good!
Only 2 of the completed projects in Austin McConnell's Bargain Bin Cinematic Universe and this was another home run! While some of the prose felt like it went on forever, the dialogue was a bit cheesy at points, and falling into a bit of some old tropes, it was very well done! Very fun, had some great development, great emotional weight, a fun vibe, and I very much appreciated the lack of Spider-Man references. The narrator was good but I feel that some dialogue here and there could've been delivered a bit better and sometimes was a bit flat. But most of that are nitpicks and I thought this was genuinely fantastic, as someone who has been following this project for a while!

What makes a good superhero? More so, what makes a good superhero story?
In a genre oversaturated with a dim nihilistic perception of supers, “The Spider-Queen” is a return to form of sorts for caped crusaders. Austin McConnell and Elizabeth McIvor have finely crafted a likable and yet unlikely new heroine with the potential of taking over the independent superhero scene. “The Spider-Queen” brings the audience back to the basics of superhero tales: a compelling hero, fun-filled action settings, flare, and most importantly heart. Gone is the depressing self deprecating atmosphere the corporate media believes audiences want to see. Reminiscent of the golden age of comics but with a modern backdrop, this novel is perfect for those yearning for a fresh superhero story that delivers more than just punches in bunches. This is a story that gives hope. Superheroes, at their core, are meant to inspire us to be better people and by that metric it passes with flying colors. “The Spider-Queen” didn’t need a plot larger than its theme. It didn’t need to be an edgy existential drama that leaves the reader depressed after the final page. All it needed was 80 years for the right person to find it, and we are all the better for it.

Fun story.
The world feels real and fantastic at the same time. A hero that seems like you could pass her on the street on a random fall day.
