Acerca de esta escucha

This electrifying novel set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 follows a group of strangers as they discover that the dangers of Night City are all too real.

In sparkling Night City, a ragtag group of strangers have just pulled off a heist, robbing a convoy transporting a mysterious container belonging to Militech. The only thing the group has in common is that they were blackmailed into participating in the heist—and they have no idea just how far their mysterious employer's reach goes, or the purpose of the artifact they stole.

This newly formed gang—composed of a veteran turned renegade, a sleeper agent for Militech, a computer nerd, a therapist, a ripperdoc, and a techie—must learn how to overcome their differences and work together, lest their secrets be unveiled before they can pull off the next deadly heist.

I enjoyed this book and felt it captured the cyberpunk atmosphere pretty well. I’m torn about its overall quality because personally I found it really hard to follow precisely what was going on. There are a lot of characters and scene transitions. This isn’t the first book I’ve had that problem with but it’s one of the few books I’ve listened to more than once to try and get a grasp on all the different things that are happening because it is good enough that I want to get it better, just have trouble tracking it all.

Good but hard to follow.

i really wanted more content and stories from the world built by mike pondsmith and cdpr — and this really did it for me! great performance by the same voice actor that voices female v in the game.

great for cyberpunk 2077 fans!!

All of the twists and turns of a cyberpunk heist you expect and love. A great story that captures the tone of a dystopian future.

Cyberpunk!

Great story, but I really hated the ending. The story was so well written that the crummy ending caught me off guard. The author has more than enough skill to make it better than what it turned out to be. Doesn't matter. I enjoyed it regardless.

loved it but lousy ending

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of my all-time favorite video games. I played it through with female V, so I got to experience the game with Cherami Leigh's voice acting front and center. She was absolutely amazing in that game and a big reason why I loved it so much. That being said, I was very excited to see that this Cyberpunk novel featured her narrating.

She does not disappoint. I'd say the overall story is good, not great. If you like Cyberpunk 2077, there's little about this book that you won't like. It has the same gritty vibe as the game. The main characters are interesting and well-rounded. Do they hold up to some of the particularly strong ones in the game like Judy, Panam, Jackie or V? Nah, but they are still solid. This is an overall heist story, with a lot of twists and turns that keep it interesting. It lost me briefly at a few times, but I was generally able to keep up and get the gist of what was going on.

What buoys this entire experience is the homerun performance by Cherami Leigh. She breathes unique life into each character, and inflects all the right ranges of emotions for the given situation. It's probably some of the best audiobook narration I've experienced, and a testament to how a talented voice actor can elevate a whole experience.

So...if you're a Cyberpunk 2077 fan, particularly one who played through with female V, I don't think you can go wrong with this book. It's a fun revisit to that amazing setting.

Solid story, completely amazing performance

The story does a good job at telling what life in NC. Very enjoyable story with characters you can't help but relate to.

A nice fill in for what happens in Night City

This book is well written... sorta. I'm only a few chapters in and this might be one of the FEW books that l never finish (and l LOVE cyberpunk!).
THE PROBLEM:
From page one, there are too many characters in this book, and every chapter seems to introduce more... so many that l could not figure out who the main character was.
l love ENSEMBLE stories, but the most interesting character was the cop we briefly see. Since there is no clear "Main", l never got attached to a character to care about and struggled to stick with the story.
I think that's a problem that video game adaptations have - the writer is trying to hit every character class/type that is in the game and thinking we'll attach to the class we'd play... but l don't play the game and don't care about anybody except for Johnny (Silverhand / Wick).
I'll update this if l finish this book.

I DIDN'T CARE...

True to form

A lot of moving parts and it doesn’t help that many of the characters sound the same. At times it’s hard to distinguish who the author is writing about. There is not enough vocal difference between characters, there should have been at least 2 voice actors or one who had a wider range of voices. Then the ending didn’t make any sense at all. This book needs a second book. So I’m wondering if this took place before the game, because this chip Zor has I wonder if this is what Adam Smasher has, but just a better version.

Maybe this is a better read than an audiobook.

So kudos to Cherami who probably did the best with what she was given. This is probably the first audio book that I ALMOST bought the actual book with to read alongside because the story at times is VERY hard to follow. Scenes transition very badly if they transition at all and if you're not paying attention, you'll get confused when all of a sudden different characters are being named or start talking.

The narrator does well to take different voices and try to sound different between the characters when she's reading for different people. Again I gotta give credit to the reader and just assume that this is just down to the producer and the writer not making things smooth for the reader and then making it hard to follow for the listener.

The story itself is true to the setting. It's a story set in Night City where good endings just don't exist... The characters are good and would've been easier to grasp if things were easier to follow. Overall it would've been a great experience and it was entertaining but was just really hard to follow.
