Publisher's summary

"Shocking...terrifying." (Entertainment Weekly)

From USA Today and number one Amazon best-selling author Jeremy Bates comes the second book in the all-new World's Scariest Legends series.

In 1954, at the start of the Cold War, the Soviet military offered four political prisoners their freedom if they participated in an experiment requiring them to remain awake for 14 days while under the influence of a powerful stimulant gas. The prisoners ultimately reverted to murder, self-mutilation, and madness.

None survived.

In 2018, Dr. Roy Wallis, an esteemed psychology professor at UC Berkeley, is attempting to recreate the same experiment during the summer break in a soon-to-be demolished building on campus. He and two student assistants share an eight-hour rotational schedule to observe their young Australian test subjects around the clock.

What begins innocently enough, however, morphs into a nightmare beyond description that no one could have imagined - with, perhaps, the exception of Dr. Roy Wallis himself.

Loved it

Scared me with what is possible when a megalomaniac, narcissist individual is able to take their sick dreams and make them a reality.
Fantastic narration. Will be looking for other audio books that George Ellington narrates.

Interesting

I was instantly interested from the get go, being a history nerd and knowing about this experiment. When the Professor becomes obsessed you start to feel for everyone involved. If you are a curious person and like a dash or gore, this is it.

I listened for days in a row.

This was such an interesting plot. I swear I spent days listening to it. The reader was very good at keeping me engaged as well!

Alright book

There was a very slow start to the book. But once it picked up, it was good.

Your live in the sleep lab - realistically amazing

You felt like you were in the sleep lab along side Dr. Wallis. It keeps you hanging on every word. I didn't want to stop listening and reading!.

Not a fan

I found the premise to be very interesting and there was so much that could have been developed here with the psychological decline of the patients. However it just turned into a macabre gore fest. I stuck it out hoping to have a clever twisty ending but it was entirely predictable.

I have it a three because it told its tale. But there was nothing special here. It was not scary just felt like self glorifying gore.

I am sorry I listened to be honest. What a waste of a holiday.

The narrator was okay, though not a favorite of mine.

Creepy

It’s an extremely twisted book! Pretty graphic and not for the faint of heart! Highly recommend!

Jeremy Bates is a fantastic author.

I love how detailed is the story was and the narrator did pretty good. the details of the story really brought it to life. although there was some very suspenseful moments the book just didn't draw me in as much as I'd hoped it to. I still would recommend the right though.

meh

it was certainly an ok audio book, that much is true.
The story was ok, the ending felt kind of out of place, and
the pacing felt very off. I got this because I was trying to find a good horror novel to listen to, but it took a bit to long to get to anything remotely horrifying.
