About this listen

The story of the first Illeniel wizard continues.

Tyrion's life among the She'Har had become quiet, but the sins of his youth have returned to haunt him. The Mordan wardens have discovered one of his children, and the other groves are racing to find and claim the rest of his illegitimate offspring. Unable to stand by and watch as his children are used as pawns against one another, Tyrion makes a hard choice, one that will set him against everyone and everything he cares for. Others' love made his children strong, but his hate will make them powerful.

Another really good book but just like the rest it's failed to confine the scope of its magic system. On to a fairy tale ending..

losing control.

There are some plot holes, but the story drives such an emotional response I barely notice. Just sit back and enjoy the roller coaster ride.

Engrossing and impossible to put down

If you could sum up The Silent Tempest in three words, what would they be?

Great, exiting, riveting.

What did you like best about this story?

It flows so beautifully, carrying on the story of the beginning of the universe of the Mageborn series. The author really captures the strains of emotion that flow through the story and brings it to life. One can really feel the love and hatred being churned about in the story. The arena fights are well crafted stories, no problem suspending belief and letting the 'new' reality wash over.

What does Alex Wyndham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Alex voices the book such that it is simply a pleasure to audit the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither laughter nor crying, but a sense of involvement and deep emotional involvement.

Any additional comments?

This is a great read and I look forward to more of the same as the story progresses. Easily in the same league as David Gemmell and Joe Abercrombie!

Great book 2 for the series. I didn't want it to end. Can't wait for the next one!

GREAT READ

I now have 10 Michael G. Manning audiobooks in my library. I regret none of them. I listened to this book preparing to listen to the 3rd book in the Embers of Illennial series.

I do not like dark books, and I am not enjoying this series as much as the Mageborn series, but it is still uniquely compelling and easily draws me into the story and demands I stay. Many of my recent audiobook picks I have not been able to finish, when Manning is the writer I have to force myself to stop listening and do life's more important task.

This series is dark in a way few fantasy series dare. The main characters who each are living tragic unenviable lives are forced to be as evil as they are good, but the device Manning uses to tell the story helps protect the reader from deep sadness of the story.

Dark story, told in a way that somewhat insulates the reader

Every one of the stories in this connected series is very well written and I have enjoyed them so much! This type of story wasnt even a genre I was into until now!

I love this series

This book went by far too quickly. That would be my only complaint. The narrator did an amazing job bringing the book to life. The book remains fairly unpredictable and exciting. I highly recommend this series to anyone interested in high fantasy. It should be noted that this series has material that leans towards a more mature audience. However it is very subtle in its application and can be palatable for a younger audience as well. I eagerly await book 3.

simply amazing!

I usually only listen to the audio books while driving, however, I ended up listening on my Kindle at other times just so I could hear what happens next. The narrator is AMAZING! Character's voices, inflections, cadences, etc. are far more than distinct, giving the feel of separate narrators for each character. Unbelievable!

Even Better Than the First
