About this listen

The intrepid necromancers Bauchelain and Korbal Broach—scourges of civilization, raisers of the dead, reapers of the souls of the living, devourers of hope, betrayers of faith, slayers of the innocent and modest personifications of evil—have a lot to answer for and answer they will, but first they must lie, murder and cheat their way through three more escapades in some of the harsher fringes, deprived wastelands and impoverished communities of the Malazan Empire. Much to the shame of their long-suffering general factotum, Emancipor Reese...

Here then—for listeners'' delectation and entertainment—are those escapades, namely the novellas “The Wurms of Blearmouth,” “The Crack'd Pot Trail” and “The Fiends of Nightmaria.”

Critic reviews

“Deftly brought to life through the narrative storytelling talents by Nicolas Boulton, this two-volume collection of original action/adventure fantasy novellas by Steven Erickson is especially and unreservedly recommended.”Midwest Book Review

The stories are twisted and humorous with interesting characters. The narrator does a great job of voicing the characters if you can get around him pronouncing some known names in the series a bit differently. Overall, an enjoyable listen.

Fun Addition to the Series

Never have death, dismemberment, and the undead been so hysterical! You’ll blood will curdle before it boils over from laughter.

You’ll die from laughter.

The performance by the narrator was top notch, and the stories are fascinating. K&B's antics are hilarious to figure out throughout each unique story.

Hilariously Dark

Quick side jaunt into the Malazan fantasy world. Great characters and situations. Phenomenal performance. Dark violent humour. Great stuff

this was a tough one. the artists were too wordy and exhausting. 1st and 3rd stories were good though

he smoked crack on the pot trail.

I read the Malazan series twice and listened to other works by Erickson. But it’s been a long while since then. I’m glad to know he hasn’t lost a step. He’s still at the top of the class. Well done. Looking forward to the next one.

Stellar

As always Erikson's work is such a treat to experience, and Nicholas's outstanding performance just made it that much more so.

Amazing Story Amazing Performance

Big fan of the world and the characters and too much of this is too wildly different. Mostly Crackd pot trail. No familiar characters, very different writing style, and just feels too different for me to want to finish it

This isn’t “Malazan” enough.
