Acerca de esta escucha

The first three thrillers in the international best-selling Sam Pope series: The Night Shift, The Takers and Long Road Home.

Join the fight.

The explosive series begins with The Night Shift, where ex-sniper Sam Pope leads his own investigation into a bombing at the London Marathon, setting himself on a collision course with some of the most dangerous criminals in London.

The Takers sees Sam continue his one man war on organized crime, as the search for a missing girl leads him into a war with a sickening human trafficking empire.

And lastly, Long Road Home finds Sam in Europe, racing against the clock to locate his former mentor who is being hunted under the suspicion of terrorism.

Book 3: worst accents I’ve ever heard.
Story: wants to be like Jack Reacher stories, but falls fall short.

Is that what you think Americans sound like?

Really good fun series so far. Bit of a reacher esque story. Great action and character development .

Great story

I like the idea but how many times can any man get beaten to a pulp and get back up? I think in this three book series he was shot four times in the shoulder over about a six month period. Too much !

Unrealistic Overplayed

I liked the character Sam Pope. But by the 3rd book I was quite tired of hearing the name repeated more times than was necessary. Blurred lines and the death of his son were over emphasized as well. The narrator is not my favorite because like others have mentioned his accent abilities are not very good. I can see that the author has a good character but his knowledge of the subject matter of being a former elite soldier, and weapons knowledge is not well understood. The past/present jumping around was a bit hard to follow at times and out of place more often than was necessary in my opinion. Reading reviews of future books in the series this seems to be a recurring issue. The character is certainly likable but the writing style and the narrator leaves a poor impression overall.

Good character premise

Wanted to enjoy, and I really tried, listening to 3 books & starting a 4th. the stories themselves are okay; I just couldn't get past the appallingly bad American accents.

Decent Writing, Distractingly Bad American Accents

A little too repetitive but good action sequences, the wounds are gruesome and the healing is not bel livable but still a good story

The Sam Pope character has been interesting enough for me to listen to all 3 books in the boxed set. But, there are some things that are "off-putting"...
One, the use of high school level, trite and hackneyed metaphors when describing actions ("the blade went through his wrist like a knife through butter").
Two, if one is going to write an action story that involves the use of weapons - lots of them - the author should know basic terminology. For example, he often calls the MAGAZINE that holds the bullets for a semiautomatic handgun, like a Glock, a "clip". This is NOT correct and even a beginner gun enthusiast knows this. A CLIP would refer to a metal device that holds preloaded cartridges into the magazine of semiautomatic or automatic RIFLES. Also, the author repeatedly mentions how a character (often Sam) hears the sound of a gun's safety being "clicked" off.. usually in the throes of a gun battle, or as one bad guy or another comes up on the other character - who hears the the sound and is alerted to the danger about to befall! Trust me, as one who as been armed as a requirement of my occupation, NO ONE walks around - especially in dangerous situations - with their gun's safety on!
Three - the narrator does about the most awful American accents I have ever heard. They are terrible - especially his version of a New York accent, and they all still have British English pronunciations mixed in with the "American" English.

Decent story, but not Jack Reacher

the narrators accent works great for the story and the environment that it takes place in. but please stop trying to do American accents.
a few southern accents and a new York accent are all butchered in their attempts. the only reaction these attempts produce is a quick break in the reality the story creates.

good story, terrible attempt at accents

Robert Enright could do so much more with the Sam Pope series but he wastes so much time retelling the history of the main character, Sam Pope. I have listened to 5 books now and am so sick of hearing historical details resold many times, in each book. He could spend all of this time explaining details of Sam's upcoming missions or building side characters but instead he tells us a dozen times about Sam's son dying, blah, blah, blah. I've seen reviews comparing him to Lee Child and/or Robert Ludlum. Those comparisons are an insult to Lee and Robert.

Sam Pope Series Frustrates
