About this listen

Blythe Sol never would have thought she would become the face of the Restoration Resistance. Yet, that is just what has happened now that the battle lines have been drawn. With the movement sweeping the United States, the stakes are higher than ever as President Drummond continues to prove his dedication to the destruction of the bionics and all who stand with them.

As anger and frustration among the American people reaches the boiling point, citizens begin to fight back, many showing their support for the bionics despite the personal costs to themselves. As protests turn violent, and people who once cowered in silence begin to fight back, the government continues its practices that fly in the face of the very principles the nation was founded upon.

Despite the many losses it has sustained, the Resistance stands strong, leading America into revolution and onward toward change. With an unlikely, ragtag family of misfits at its forefront, the Resistance stands, while a girl who lost everything continues to fight for a future that was once impossible, but may now be within her reach.

This Means War

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The continuing story of the battle between the bionics and the U.S. president is interesting with lots of action and enough twists and turns to keep things interesting.

What other book might you compare The Resistance to and why?

It has a future dystopian feel to it much like The Hunger Games and Red Dawn. Although it is dark and the outcome often feels grim, the courage and resilience of the resistance forces provide you with a hope that things will work out in the end.

What does Marissa Clay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Marissa's accents and vocalizations for the various characters during dialogue sections of the book add an extra layer that isn't present in the written text.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The government made them monsters - now they fight for their humanity.

Any additional comments?

This is a long book but worth the time.

Excellent second book in a series, get it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a great book with complex characters and plots.

There is a nice mix of modern and dystopian values and sentiments. I would like to believe that America's core values would still exit 2000 years from now. The story of the resistance is based on that assumption and those values fighting against tyranny with it's tyrants.

The plot to turn America into a Dictatorship with the population little more than puppets is very complex. There are schemes within schemes. This is balanced with the opposition trying to make headway with the population who is primarily outside of the fight and with the people working for the government who are good guys and want to do the right thing, even when it means questioning the system they work for.

Alicia's creativity when it comes to how bad the bad guys can be is scary. I was surprised more than once by some of the tactics. Of course, the good guys have some interesting tactics as well.

The characters continue to become more complex in this book. We get to know more about the major characters as well as getting to know more about a number of the secondary characters. There are some happy endings and some not so happy endings in this story. Given the setting, that is expected.

This is an excellent second book in a series. Every bit as action packed and complex as the first. I strongly recommend it. Worth the credit.

What about Marissa Clay’s performance did you like?

Marissa does a good job of helping the listener to keep track of who is speaking and what their emotions are. She also kept me in the story throughout. Her narration and the story flowed well together. I really enjoyed listening to the story.

Thanks Alicia for the opportunity to read this story!

Holy smokes what an ending!

The narrator, Marissa Clay, brought Alicia Michaels words alive. She left me with a pounding in my chest and a strong, overwhelming desire to join the Resistance. This storyline is incredible. Alicia Michaels knows how to put you front and center with the action. The raw emotion emanates from these characters and Ms. Clay evoked each and everyone one.

Great Sequel

Would you consider the audio edition of The Resistance to be better than the print version?

Only have listened not read, but I prefer audiobooks, as the characters come to life in a new way.

What other book might you compare The Resistance to and why?

There were references to a 'flame' and the resistance 'igniting' and 'catching fire'. Oftentimes I found myself noticing the similarities between The Resistance and the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.

What about Marissa Clay’s performance did you like?

I enjoy listening to a narrator that can seamlessly transfer voices, both male and female. Marissa Clay's performance was so well done that I often forgot that it was a female offering the narration of the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hope lies with the Resistance

Any additional comments?

This was a great sequel to the original bionics book. It was more sexually and violently graphic than the first book, but the scenes were necessary to the story line and did not detract in any way.

4 Platypires

I was given a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know if it's because I already knew most of the characters, but I found myself more drawn into this book than the last one. There are so many questions answered from the first book, which I appreciated. But there's also more brought up that I assume will be addressed in the next book.

The was a part where I was listening while in bed, with my cats and dog. A thing happens. This particular thing involves an incredible amount of feels. So I'm laying down, trying to hold it together. ...I don't need my animals judging me. Anyway, I failed. I'm laying there, trying to explain to them why it's okay that I'm sad, and then I start crying. And I'm just holding my cat, Joker, tightly and begging him to fix it.

The worst part about this book is when I finished it and then realized there isn't a third one out yet. And I've been refreshing amazon multiple times hoping to summon it.

Great addition to the series

Any additional comments?

This is a series that is worth your time. Very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable.

Great continuation of the story. This installment pulled me in from the start just as the first book did. This book is packed full of action, suspense and intrigue with so many twists you're never sure what is going to happen next. This is not a stand alone book, you need to start at the beginning to understand all that is going on in the story.

What will our world be like in 2000 years? Think of all the advancements in the last 100 years. With all the leaps in modern technology it could very well resemble a scenario similar to this story in some ways. Which really makes you stop and think. If we apply all that knowledge what would the repercussions be?

If you had the chance to save a loved one or yourself from death through the science of bionics would you? Then if they or you suddenly became enemy number one to the government what would you do?

Form a Resistance and do the only you can do, fight back the any way you can. Even if that means teaming up with the enemy.

The story is told through multiple POV's keeping you up to date of what is going on simultaneously with all the characters who are in different places. The characters, their backgrounds and the plot are more developed and is getting even more complex in this book. Which just adds to the overall enjoyment.

Once again Marissa Clay does a great job with the narration. Pleasant voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Her voice sounds age appropriate for the characters. Really good character voices. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. She was able to bring the characters and story to life through her narration.

There are some audio quality issues. Recording sounds hollow. There is also some background noise. Not quite sure what it is. Kind of a clicking. Didn’t notice it until chapter 12. Once I noticed it, it became annoying and distracted me from the story when ever it occurred. Chapter 24, repeated line.
