Originality will get you far

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

Hvam's performance of Reboot was the best I've listened to so far. She does a great job drawing you into the story. I loved it and I can't imagine anyone else for this audio book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was the first book I listened to on audible and I couldn't put it down. I was listening to it everywhere...in the car while driving, at the store, and even on my down time at work.

Any additional comments?

Tintera developed a world that was gripping and the scary thing about her world is how realistic it seems. I could see the same things happenig if people were to reboot today. Rebooting is basically coming back to life after you die. The longer you are gone the less human you are when you come back. The main character Wren was gone for 178 minutes. She doesn't feel much and she's very devoted to her work. She works as a weapon for a company that takes out the criminals in the remaining worlds. When a 22 comes in, Wren is determined to see if her bad ass training skills can keep him alive. It of course has a lot more going on then that, but that is the basic story. Great character development, great story, great idea, great everything. I highly recommend it!

Whew...scary premise.

What made the experience of listening to Reboot the most enjoyable?

The evolution of Wren. Good for her!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hmmm...this may sound odd, but I really liked this book, the premise is terrifying, but I didn't love anyone. I loved Wren's evolution, but I didn't love Wren. But I LOVE the story line and it's well told. Very cinematic.

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her very unique, distinct voices. She's very talented.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Oh so sad when Callum went to see his family. SO SAD!

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to book 2!

Terrific narration of such a unique and unusual book

What a wonderful retelling of an unusual YA story. Perfect choice for voice, and highly recommended as the book is surprisingly imaginative.

Heart-racing, action packed - I'm ready for more!

My first thought after finishing this book (in one sitting): WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

Unlike anything I’ve read in the past few months, Reboot was so gripping and thrilling that I was unable to put it down until it was done. I found myself flying through the pages, racing to the end and at the same time, not wanting it to end. I mean, just – WOW.

In post-apocalyptic Texas (every other state in America was destroyed due to a virus), reboots are teenagers who come back to life after dying and are then given to the government as bounty hunters except the reboots don’t actually get anything out of it. Ugh, can you imagine following every single order, always listening to someone else, never getting what you want to do – especially as a teenager? Yuck!

What I thought most about during this book (and what frustrated me) was how these reboots are treated so..inhumanly – not only by the government, but by their [former] families. Not an ounce of pity or kindness was given to these teens. Supposedly these reboots don’t feel any emotion, but do you think they act emotionless because of their situation or because that’s how they really are? I mean, if I was treated poorly and like an animal, I would probably just act emotionless out of a survival/defense mechanism.

Which brings me to Callum, sweet Callum. A 22, and such a endearing boy. From the very first scene, I was drawn to his sweet disposition. Every scene with him is filled with this tension – you want to protect him, you want him to grow, you want him to kick butt even though you know he’s a 22. For some reason, he reminded me a lot of Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth. I think it was their kind hearts and adoration they held for their girls.

Reboot is one that fans of Divergent are going to want to pick up for sure. It’s heart-racing, action packed, and had me begging for more.

Shows its influences but basically a lot of fun

Any additional comments?

This was just fun to listen to, it occasionally lost its way but for the most part it was just enjoyable.
As a disclaimer I have a things for female characters who are what TVTropes refers to as Determinators, women who will keep going towards their goal no matter what. Wren definitely qualifies which makes this book an automatic like for me.

Weak characterization unmakes the story.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't recommend this book. The characters behave in odd and illogical ways even within the context of the story. This really holds the story back which otherwise has an interesting premise.

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

Very good differentiation of characters.
