About this listen

Nothing has gone according to plan.

To Captain Lee Harden, Project Hometown feels like a distant dream and the completion of his mission seems unattainable. Wounded and weaponless, he has stumbled upon a group of survivors that seems willing to help. But a tragedy in the group causes a deep rift to come to light and forces him into action. In the chaos of the world outside, Lee is pursued by a new threat: someone who will stop at nothing to get what he has.

The Remaining: Aftermath is the second book in the best-selling The Remaining series.

this continuation is better than the first book

The first book was annoying for all the stupid errors the "hero" made. And I still maintain that he broke protocol and left the bunker nearly 2 weeks before he was supposed to. And why, for sanity's sake were those 48 guys not emailing each other about this situation? Were they all just supposed to meet up with each other without communication and without plan? That's no way to run the salvation of civilization.

But this series is very captivating. In this book, some mysteries will be solved, some bad guys taken down, and some good guys sacrificed. We cannot know our reactions to such situations until we are in them. We should all hope to perform so well. There's lots of action, and human drama, so it works out to be a very human story. I am so glad that the word Zombie has never been mentioned. I steer clear of those!

I wish the editors would correct grammar and word choice, but editors don't seem to do that anymore. Sigh.

Christian Rummel is a great narrator. He makes a few mistakes here, and you can't always tell who's a female, but in all he does a fine job, and adds a lot to the story.

Dead on characters, situations and tactics!

Any additional comments?

Molles is one of the best writers in the apocalypse/zombie genre. Read this series.

ANOTHER AWESOME, ACTION PACKED, EXCITING BOOK.

I will definitely purchase Book 3 in the series to see what happens next. It is amazing to me what Captain Lee puts himself through for the sake of his mission. His injuries are many, I don't understand how he still walks upright. The author must have been in combat himself to be able to write about it so realistically. Aside from all of that there are a few twists and very surprising turns in this book. Some of Captain Lee's decisions are downright suicidal I thought, and not in keeping with how smart he had been up until then in the story. Deciding to go into a small town in search of one person, by his self, having heard from other survivors, and having personal experience with the infected, and knowing that hordes of them always populated small towns, and were faster than one man with a gun could handle, he was going anyway. Just because someone had asked him to. Well it made no sense in light of what he and 4 other guys were doing to save 50 or so people. Spoiler - so I can't tell anymore than that except to say it made for a lot of tension, suspense, and from the authors' s awesomely descriptive writing I could see all the action in my mind's eye just like watching a movie, only better. Which is in a nutshell, why I have grown to love audible, and this series in particular. IF YOU LIKE ACTION, DELVE INTO THIS SERIES, YOU WONT BE SORRY PEOPLE!

Loved it!

This is a continuation of a great story! I love this kind of thing anyway, but the author of these novels really did a great job depicting one possible way that a SHTF scenario might play out. Great characterization. Great heroes. I really loved this book. The narrator is amazing, too!

A smart handling of a zombie story.

I like this series because it has handled the typical zombie story a little differently than usual. Molles has not borrowed the tired cliche of "undead" flesh eaters who mindlessly wander looking for blood. Rather, the "infected" are still somewhat alive and even human, although reduced to a baser animal state and thus far in the story have even begun to show a frightening amount of thought and reason to their movements.
Even better than all of the zombie stuff -is the struggle of the survivors to band together and fight off the "Mad Max" like psychopaths who try to rule this new order of society. Molle has added a satisfying amount of intrigue and surprise attack. Although the good guys do end victorious, there are no easy victories to mar the believability of the action.
I can't wait to start book three.

Captain Lee Harden FTW!

One of my favorite series I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I'm writing this review after listening to all 4 books and I think this one (Book 2) is actually my favorite.

Really, really awesome plot and I 100% recommend it.

Christian Rummel's narration is simply incredible, BTW.

Excellent,

An excellent series for the survival horror genre. Easy to get caught up with and wanting more. The detail in which the writer captures the different weapon systems and equipment makes me wanna go gear shopping haha.

Miller

Moving better now. Julia is interesting. Didn't need to kill Miller, just to isolate Lee. Rev Jim and the bus was predictable but still a nice touch.

Treachery from within through a familiar vein.

I did enjoy this story enough to buy the next book in the series. The author is somewhat prolific and maybe far more than is commonly understood. The way a word is used throughout. The way a phrase is coined again. The narrator is also prolific and again likely far more than is known. Barring these mild clichés, it is a very worthy instalment and worth a listen for he long haul driver. The teaser chapter from the next book in the series is good bait for doomer fiction aficionados and veritably guarantees the next purchase IMHO.
