About this listen

Ambitious Daily Sentinel journalist Lauren King is chaffing on LA’s vapid social circuit, reporting on glamorous A-list parties while sparring with her rival - the formidable, icy Catherine Ayers. Ayers is an ex-Washington political correspondent who suffered a humiliating fall from grace, and her acerbic, vicious tongue keeps everyone at bay. Everyone, that is, except knockabout Iowa girl King, who is undaunted and unimpressed and gives as good as she gets.

One night a curious story unfolds before their eyes: one political launch, 34 prostitutes and a palette of missing pink champagne. Can the warring pair work together to unravel an incredible story?

This is a lesbian fiction with more than a few mysterious twists.

Ice queen and country hack

I did not think Lee could produce another winner but she did it again. Writing with knowledge about a subject she knows so well. The concept of this work was truly beautiful and heartwarming. The narration though I was dubious at the beginning grew on me as it progressed and by the end I was all in.

Loved it

Few writers make me laugh out loud. Lee Winters is one. The dialogue is realistic and makes the characters live and breathe in the reader’s mind long after the story is done. If you pass up this book I’m here to offer my sympathy for what you’ve missed.
I have to get the mental image of someone being as “antsy as a horse climbing stairs” out of my mind now. Dr. Pepper keeps shooting out of my nose at inopportune moments when I think about it. 🤣

So good

I loved every second of this story. It had a nice balance of suspense and romance. Will definitely read again.

good

This story has intrigue, humor, a bit of heartache and love. Making this a very good story that had a great narrator.

Romance + Mystery + Suspenseful Moments

Another great one by Lee Winter, love her ice queens! I thought I couldn’t fall for another one but I sure did. Story really picks up in Chapter 2. Can’t wait to get lost in more of Winter’s stories. Victoria Mei did a great narration.

Enjoyed the story, but…

The narrator sounded like Samantha from Sex and the City, which made every character sound like a version of her. That could be a good thing, or not so great… depending on how much you liked Samantha. She kinda grew on me towards the very end.
I liked Winter’s other books better… Requiem for Immortals, Hotel Queens, Brutal Truth, Awkward Truth.

“The Red Files” by Lee Winter, Narrated by Victoria Mei

I liked everything about this book! Down to earth journalist Lauren King and icy journalist Catherine Ayers are adorable together. I would say Catherine couldn’t be more icy if she tried but I really think she could!

Lee Winter wrote an amazing story with a fantastic plot and the characters she created are sublime! The narration by Victoria Mei was beautiful and spot on! She brought the characters to life.

Another good one

I just finished listening to this one, the choice of Victoria Mei as narrator was brilliant. Her ice queen Catherine Ayers felt impossible to melt, and her Lauren King was spot on. I totally dig this book and can't wait to here the sequel. If at all possible I say have Victoria Mei narrate the sequel as well. She brings those charters to life and gives them full bodies and feelings.

Gets better and better

I almost ditched the book in the first chapter cuz author seems trying too hard to make dialogue clever and witty. I was impressed though as plot grabbed me and unexpected twists surprised me. I'm a new fan of this author and hope more stories by her await me and more are yet to be written
