About this listen

Aryn has never been like other 12-year-old girls in Meadowvale. She prefers catching frogs to playing with dolls and wearing her big brother’s hand-me-downs, instead of the frilly dresses her mom wishes she would wear. She’s never felt like she quite fits in anywhere. That is, until one Saturday morning at a yard sale, the curmudgeonly Mr. Thebes sells her a mysterious book that transports her into the magical land of Kalos where goblins, ogres, and chimeras are all real. There, Aryn meets the fallen Elf King and learns about an ancient prophecy that is somehow wrapped up in her own fate.

With the help of her new friends - a resourceful gnome named Gerryditto and an outspoken fairy named Franzella - Aryn embarks on an adventure to find the Elf King’s stolen crown. But does a tomboy from Meadowvale have what it takes to rescue a king? And exactly what else does this prophecy about the girl from Sickle Grove Lane mean for Aryn?

As she searches for a way to find the stolen Phoenix Crown and save the kingdom of Kalos, what she really discovers is the hero within, a hero who isn’t afraid to get dirty fighting monsters instead of being rescued from them.

Entertaining with gnomes, faeries, and more

The Quest for the Phoenix Crown written by Xander T. Petersen is a quick hitter of a fantasy adventure. Though it is a quick tale, it's a fun tale. With gnomes, faeries, goblins, and plenty of adventure. This story will keep you entertained throughout. The writer was able to tell an original story while still including some hallmarks of wider known fantasy tales. With a cliffhanger like ending, it hints there might be more stories in this universe to come. At least I hope so!!

Ross Destiche's performance was well done. He was able to overcome the poor sound quality of the audiobook and keep me entertained. Some of his voices were a bit over the top and while I didn't mind, other listeners might.

Editing and production were on par with most books I have listened to. The quality on the other hand was not. The background sound was like it was being broadcast through a tin can.
