A true believer remains faithful to his Lord under all circumstances, and his faith is always visible in his righteous, good deeds. In order to fulfill the main requirement of a person's belief in Islam, one must totally surrender themselves to Allah.
These two factors, having faith in Allah and performing good deeds, work together to make each other stronger and more valid. They both go together, with one's faith in Allah predicting the quality of the good deeds a person does, and the good deeds they do reflecting the nature of their faith in Allah.
