About this listen

In My Religion, Leo Tolstoy accuses the church of hiding the true meaning of Jesus, which is to be found in the Sermon on the Mount and the call to resist evil. For Tolstoy, it is this command that has been most damaged by ecclesiastical interpretation.

Tolstoy had not always been possessed of the religious ideas set forth in My Religion. For 35 years of his life, he was, in the proper acceptation of the word, a nihilist - not a revolutionary socialist but a man who believed in nothing. But faith came to him; he believed in the doctrine of Jesus, and his life underwent a sudden transformation.

I am completely blown away. This book changes the way that I look at everything.

Amazing

This book seems to be one of those books you stumble on and say to yourself, "This book right here is the world's best kept secret." Many people have heard of War & Peace and a few of his other literary works but ask people about this book and very few if any have even heard of it's existence.

This book should not be reviewed further or commented on. People should have to read it.

Why Did We Not Read This In Bible College?

This work is a masterpiece. Documents the apostasy. The honesty of this book almost hurts.

Tolstoy at full maturity.

Tolstoy was a genius, without peer in both fiction and non-fiction. Difficult subject well delivered.

Great book, great reader

The narration (Bob Souter) was very good. Leo Tolstoy tells a very compelling story of several profound steps to the development of his faith. He focused on the words of Christ from the bible, which he researched in numerous documents including Greek and Latin sources . He was obviously a very dedicated and scholarly writer. He revealed very basic concepts of Jesus' teaching, which taken together yielded an understanding different than anything I had heard or read. He brought new meaning to many parables in a very precise and thorough manner. I had never heard Leo Tolstoy mentioned as a biblical scholar or commentator. This work was unexpected and thoroughly enlightening.

Very Profound and Enlightening
