A new case won't solve Parker's old problems....
Parker Ferro needs a vacation. His boyfriend is MIA on a high profile murder investigation, the fae courts have him on call at all hours, and he’s still cleaning up the mess from his last big case. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the demands of the debt he owes the spirit of San Amaro.
So, when a wealthy new client contacts him to locate a stolen fae artifact, Parker’s hoping for a simple job. That the artifact in question looks eerily similar to the one that got him involved with a notorious criminal and almost ruined his life last year - well, that has no bearing on the decision....right? Not to mention the thief’s ability to enter high security areas without a trace and a few very suspicious deaths.
As his life continues to spiral out of control, Parker has to juggle what’s most important to him: his relationship, his need for revenge, or his life. Then again, no one said becoming the new Windrose would be easy.
The Oak Wood Throne is a MM urban fantasy with a HFN ending.

But if you did, it's relatively smooth sailing. Characters are consistent and the overarching story lines move forward at a fast clip. This book is less focused on their relationship, although it does definitely address it. Like book one, there is a lot going on. One of the things that's true for this series is that Parker NEVER has the luxury of solving only one problem at a time, but the seemingly disparate plot threads do spin together by the end.
Parker grows some in this book. He faces a few demons (figuratively and literally) and takes some emotional risks.
Tremblay is a good narrator, but not a personal favorite of mine. I mention this so you understand where I'm coming from when I say that he does a nice job with this series. I had reservations when I saw he was reading the books, but those reservations proved unfounded.
Enjoyable

Despite these issues, I genuinely enjoy the book and am looking forward to listening to book 3.
Good read but room for improvement

I always get kind of sad when I come to the end of a book in this series, just because I always want more. But Kai packs a lot into her stories, too, in a good way. So many threads which come together in a most satisfying way. I especially love the new character additions. Sugar and Not-a-Cat bring interesting new dynamics, and familiar faces also make welcome appearances.
And…I sound like a broken record…but as a teenager and young adult who devoured good stories like this but always felt like I was on the outside looking in, because there was never a m/m romance angle to be seen…this is fills a lonely void that was always in my heart when reading a story but knowing the characters were never really like me (in a romance angle). Yet another (of many) reasons to totally love The Oak Wood Throne.
This story just keeps getting better and better.

Parkers relationship with Nick, Fae, not-a-cat and all the other characters that make us the story is funny, charming and sometimes a little sad. The author gives us levels within the story, always a mystery to solve as well as personal issues to overcome.
Greg does a fantastic job narrating this tale and making all the characters come alive.

I am so addicted to this series. It is action packed from beginning to end, with unexpected twists and turns. I love Parker's snarky humor and his twisted ways of solving mysteries. Nick is the perfect balance to Parker's crazy and not so safe methods/antics. The magical world building just keeps getting better with all the new characters introduced, which definitely add more depth to the story. And definitely opens the door for more adventures which I want asap!!
Greg Tremblay continues to do a great job of bringing the characters to life. He also does an awesome job of giving each character their own unique and animated voice, there's no confusion of who is speaking and

Even better than the first book

The plot has a whole host of twists and turns that kept me listening way past bedtime. The characters get even more interesting with each chapter. And I enjoy wandering around the different parts of San Amaro with Parker. Parker's relationship with Nick is starting to feel more real, and Nick is developing a personality that is a bit deeper than being the perfectionist cop.
So much happened in this book that I can hardly wait for the next one to see where the story leads. I am also hopeful that we will get the entire series narrated by Greg Tremblay because his voices add a little spice to each character's personality.
Good story. Good narration.
