Through her neighbor's kitchen window, she sees what appears to be a little girl washing dishes late at night. Top notch narration weaves a strong story together

I loved the way the story and the narrator blended seamlessly to create an immersive listening experience. Stacey is a true artist. The story was powerful and lovely. Well done.

Great story

Loved the suspenseful plot, and kindness of some of the characters, but disliked the mild profanity. Great narration !

Well written and marriages book

The book keeps you hooked. So well written with such an amazing story, a real story for too many foster kids, I so wish most of the will have the end the little one here did. All characters were well played . I want more books like this.

Serious yet light and entertaining

I REALLY enjoyed this book and plan to look for more by this author. It isn't great literature; in fact, there are a few flaws that I wish the author and editor had avoided, because the novel could have been elevated to a higher literary quality. For example, there were a couple of events in the middle that bordered on ridiculous and contrived, and the novel waters down the overarching theme of the novel, which is modern slavery--for example, using "servant" where "slave" was the correct term. All that considered, though, I found the plotting and characterization engaging and was hooked most of the time. And honestly, the villain of the novel is one of the best characters I've come across in a long time--the kind I love to hate. I looked forward to her scenes and was bummed when I didn't get a final scene of reckoning. I'd like to see this character in another novel, but she isn't the protagonist type, so it's doubtful. Anyway, I highly recommend this! As a bonus, it is relatively clean with little swearing, no sex, and little violence.

One of the best books I have read in a long time. I could not stop listening and finished it in 2 days!

Better than expected

At first I didn't know if I'd like this book, but I did. I liked the writing style and characters. Poor little Mia! I just can't imagine going through what she did, especially for the reasons she did. The ending was good and tied up loose ends. Thank goodness for a nosy neighbor who knew something wasn't right. I thought based on the description and beginning of the story, it might be a ghost child, but no. I enjoyed this one.
