About this listen

For years, the town of Silver Bell, Arkansas has quietly mourned the hospital fire that claimed the lives of nine of its residents—the town doctor, a young expectant mother, and seven infants. So, when journalist Finn Hardwick is assigned the story as part of a national thirtieth anniversary memorial service, he arrives at the town ready to interview its residents, thinking they’ll be ready to share and eager to make headlines. He isn’t prepared for the resistance. Or for what appears to be a collective unwillingness to answer his questions.

Faced with one roadblock after another, Finn enlists the help of Billi Ellis, the young motel receptionist that everyone in the town seems to like. Maybe she can get them to open up to him. Maybe she can help him make sense of everything he keeps uncovering. Especially the unexpected tie this tragedy appears to have to his own life. A tie that leads him directly to the old woman who seems to hold the key to everything. The woman everyone avoids…the woman they call “dirty”…the woman who hasn’t spoken a word to anyone since the day the hospital burned.

Disliked Billie’s voice thought it could be done by a female. With a male name it was confusing

This book was not recommended to me by anyone. I chose it after seeing its high ratings on Goodreads. Maybe I had to high expectations to give it a chance. It was average at best to me.

Expected a lot more from a book rated 4.8 stars on Goodreads.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and proves the point of why we should be kind to each other. You never know what someone else is going through and how you could be the difference.

This is a great book

This was a good story. I might of enjoyed this book more if I was to flat out reading it myself. The two narrator did a terrible job on changing up their voice for each character. Whom ever was in charged of picking narrated should have not chosen a man over 50 yrs old to narrate as a gorgeous 30 yr old reporter. It was easy to tell he wasn’t 30. I was hearing creeper, so it was hard to enjoy the book.

Why have an over 50 year old man narrated a 30 year old character.

I enjoyed the mystery element and the characters were likeable. I feel a bit was pushed too far - the amount of poor treatment of Sally was a bit unbelievable, along with some of the descriptions of the couple married 20+ years, a little cheesy and unrealistic. But all in all, an enjoyable easy listen.

Enjoyable and easy read
