Acerca de esta escucha

From a New York Times bestselling author, a thriller in which Benjamin Franklin's mysterious connection to Paul Revere and a cabal of powerful alchemists that has been lost to history—until now.

Card shark Hailey Gordon and ex-con Nick Patterson—fresh off of uncovering one of the biggest secrets of the Revolutionary War alongside American history professor Adrian Jensen—now find themselves in Philadelphia, immersed in the history of Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere. The Liberty Bell, Charles Willson Peale's Museum, and the Tomb of The Unknown Revolutionary Soldier are connected to Franklin in amazing ways. The more they discover, the more shocking the implications become.

The long buried secrets Hailey and Nick are chasing have previously only been known by a select few, who would prefer to keep it that way. A woman known as The Heiress—part of a mysterious organization called The Family—is one of these rare historians. After generations of members have failed before her, The Heiress has been tasked to finally unearth the alchemical secrets Revere and Franklin may have discovered during their lifetimes.

And she's not about to let Nick and Hailey get in her way.

This historical adventure is a delight. Whether you like alchemy mysteries or if you’ve never heard of them before - you’ll thoroughly enjoy. Global mysteries, global adventures and heists~ the author magnificently weaves together a large cast of characters that will capture your imagination.
Brilliantly performed also.

Highly recommend

I found this book hard to follow. The narration is terrible in my opinion. I enjoyed the historical elements but found the book a little tedious, and over the top.

Historical fiction

I'm four chapters in and I feel like I got dropped into the middle of another book. It's obviously a continuation of another story but not labeled as such and really jarring. I think it could be really good but I will have to go back and see if I can read the previous tales first.

Wish it had been labeled as part of a series

I was lost for the first couple of hours of this audiobook. Before purchasing, I read the Audible description but it doesn't mention this is the 2nd book in Mezrich's Midnight Ride Series (I should have read the reviews!) Generally, there is way too much going on in this story--too many current and historic characters and too many iconic places and symbols. I kept thinking this might be a decent movie (think National Treasure) where the film writers would pick and choose what works to move the plot forward.

I am fan of thrillers and history, so I thought I'd like this book. There is lots of "history" in this book, but I found the extensive blending of fact and fiction doesn't work for me, personally. I frequently found myself saying, "Is that true?" At first I googled various historic details from the book but quickly decided I needed to consider everything in the book fiction (as the author indicates in the disclaimer.) In the future, I'll stick to books that clearly delineate fact and fiction.

Caution: This is 2nd book in the series.

The depth of research that went into this book was very impressive. Even though it was fiction, I learned so much about our history.

Fascinating

I tried to like this book but it feels like homework. I just can’t finish it. I almost always finish the books that I get. However this one is too boring

The plot took forever to move along because he was imparting so much art and American history. Found it tedious

Way too much information

dnf'd this in chapter 3. the author was relying on shock and gore, and I was not happy with the story.

stereotypical characters. flat writing. the apparent rip off of national treasure.
