About this listen

The Lion's Game adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue, and the characters' emotional arcs.

"The Lion" will be landing. And at New York's JFK Airport, an elite American task force waits as the notorious Libyan terrorist prepares to defect to the West. Then, aboard Flight 175, something goes eerily, horribly wrong - a mere prelude to the terror that is to come. Ex-NYPD cop, now Federal Task Force agent John Corey - together with his formidable and beautiful new partner, Kate Mayfield - will follow a trail of smoke and blood across the country. His quarry: a foe with the cunning of a lion and all the bloodlust of a man. To win a desperate game with no rules at all, Corey must invent a strategy that leaves no room for mistakes.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Loved the story. I hated the music:

The music with the story is aggravating. It didn’t go with the story. It was distracting. The story was good.

Enjoyed

John Corey is interesting and annoyingly funny. Cool story line and great character development. There are chapters that drag and seem to be there to kill time. I didn’t expect the ending but it leaves room for a sequel I guess.

Music! Ugh!!!

Just have to spin a word or two inabhorence of the background music. Almost could not continue with book but glad I did for all other redeeming features. Whose idea was
this? Good writing, reading, and plot do not require help with reader’s imagination…

Entertaining and unexpected

Love John Corey as I relate to his sarcasm. You think you predict the next step then...not so much.

A 25-hour book should not be part of a serial

Everything about this book was good except for the loose ends the listener was left with. You don't want to listen to a book for nearly 25 hours only to discover the antagonist goes on to live another day and fight another battle. The Lion is in my library and I will listen to it next. The curious thing is that I listen to a lot of books and often relisten to them years later because my brain doesn't retain information not necessary to my survival. I listened to this book about 10 years ago but it never dawned on me that this was my second listen. Maybe it was because the music in the booktrack edition was a new phenomenon to me. My first listen did not come with music. Or maybe it's because I'm an idiot. This will be my second listen of The Lion. The first was about 7-8 years ago. I will get closure a second time. The silver lining is that DeMille is such a good writer and I get to listen to more of his books than the average listener. I think I'll go with that.

Get rid of the background noise.

would have been a solid 5 except for the cheesy background music and sound effects. Just takes away from a really good narrator.

Story line

Liked the book but wasn’t thrilled with the background music. Enjoyed the story line and quirky one liners.

Background Music

Great story but the background music is very annoying. Will not buy another book with background music.

First class listen... love the Booktrack version

Great storyline by a proven author! The Booktrack version adds one more dimension to the experience. I will definitely be seeking out other Booktrack versions of my favorite authors.

Audiobook with music for a 4hr drive? YES!!

I've been reading lots of conspiracy theory/political suspense/mystery fiction books by different authors. After reading Night Fall by Nelson DeMille, I knew I had to read the John Corey series. But since my work requires that I travel from one city to another and monthly international flights, there really was no time for my kind of leisure (reading a good book with the smell of a freshly roasted coffee in the comforts of my home). Enter Audiobook! Good heavens I love how it's so convenient! And since I've been purchasing Booktrack edition audiobooks, every listening second made me feel like I was actually there!
I listened to The Lion's Game for the first time during my 4hr drive and oh man the suspenseful/investigative soundtrack along with the warm voice of the narrator kept me awake! Totally crushing on the smartass and humorous John Corey, I imagined I was Kate Mayfield lol. I liked the plot though some parts were a little slow.

But yeah, I TOTALLY LOVED THE MOVIE-LIKE EXPERIENCE. The music just made the experience even more compelling.
I'm so down for more of these! Two thumbs up for the production of this book.
