About this listen

A young Harvard law student falls under the spell of a charismatic judge in this timely and thrilling novel about class, ambition, family and murder.

Madison Rivera lands the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret that could destroy her career. Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge on his case.

When Danny goes missing after accusing the judge of corruption, Madison’s quest for answers brings her deep into the judge’s glamorous world. Is Kathryn Conroy a mentor, a victim, or a criminal? Is she trying to help Madison or use her as a pawn? And why is somebody trying to kill her?

As the two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, will they save each other, or will betrayal leave one of them dead?

Beach read

I loved all the characters. I love how it unfolded a little unexpected a Paige Turner. I couldn’t wait to get back to it and was sad when it was finished it would be great to have a follow up book.

Loved it

You know when you’re reading a book and you’re physically sad when it ends? That was me after this! It’s been a while since I couldn’t stop listening to an audiobook but this one kept me up thinking at night😂 highly recommend

Unique and compelling story

This is my first book by Michele Campbell and it will not be my last! Loved the writing and storytelling style. Everything flowed wonderfully, even with time jumps and 2 different story perspectives.

The first part of the book, I was a bit annoyed with Madison - who while only trying to help her brother, I just wanted to shake her. However her dedication to family as well as her idolization of Judge Kathryn Conroy make this a believable tale.

I loved how the author integrated the time jumps, after starting the story - allowing the reader to first be drawn into the story before giving too much information, was wonderful. While I believe most of the book, particularly in the first part, was told my Madison, we got Judge Kathryn's perspectives and history just at the right time to make the story complete.

The narration for the audiobook was spot on. Sarah Mollo-Christensen did a phenomenal job pulling the reader into the story. I could hear the worry and fear of our MFC when talking about her brothers situation and uncertainty of the path she should take.

Best suspensful novel I’ve listened to in a long time. Loved it.

Only small annoyance was the reader would use too much of her whisper voice as if the character was hiding in a closet.

!!!Spoiler Alert!!! I love Michele Campbell no matter what

But did anyone hope that the ending would be different like maybe the mafia would be after the intern to groom her into the next judge??

Best thing I’ve read lately

The speed and twists and turns kept it captivating! Great book for anyone who loves fast paced, complicated plots.

Long but good

I enjoyed this book. The twist and turns; the way you want to dislike the villain, but like the villain, at the same time, made it very intriguing.
