About this listen

This debut novel dives into the lives of bohemian New York neighbors, whose worlds are turned upside down by a mysterious rooftop landing.

When Ollie spots an alien on a nearby rooftop he knows right away that no one is going to believe him. Sure enough, his friends think he is losing it, and even his bandmate Zara is convinced he is seeing things. But she still offers to help him track down his cat, who has mysteriously vanished.

Together, they follow a trail of clues that leads them inexorably upward, toward the strange creature lurking on a rooftop overhead.

Pretty cute

Very fantastical. Lol The imagined alien in this book would be a hoot to actually see. Very unlike any I’ve waver heard described.
I enjoyed this short book and would definitely look for more by the author and narrator. Prove Waldman did a great job.

lives that interconnect

A fun, interesting read / listen that's out of this world. I really enjoyed the storyline and the way this book flows. I can't say that I was captivated but I did find the characters interesting and I enjoyed the differences of each character and how their lives interacted. A light, fun read that takes place in NYC with characters who's sanity is questionable. Loved the narration, smooth and easy to listen to. Overall enjoyable!

Bright and funny.

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. This book follows many different characters throughout the book who, unwittingly, are all connected in some way or another. It was bright and funny and as down to earth as it can be with an alien in it. Loved all the characters, and Pirate of course. I recommend this light read to any sci-fi lover that wants something easy to listen to and brighten up their day.

Turtles and Cats in the City at Night

When I read about Delas Heras’ debut, The Intergalactic Interloper, it sounded like a perfect change of pace from the world outside. It’s a short book, humorous if not laugh-out-loud funny, and charming in a gentle, nostalgic way. The action begins in the distant past of New York City 1995, a place and time that feels comforting purely because it is a quarter of a century and thousands of miles away from where I am right now.

When part-time bookseller and aspiring musician Ollie goes looking for his missing cat, Pirate, one night, he sees a strange turtle-like alien creature disintegrate a pigeon on his roof with a ray gun. Did Pirate meet the same fate? Meanwhile, the alien, Axzleprova, is trying to make first contact with Earth cats, their local species of choice, and are frustrated by the disappearance of their favorite specimen.

Ollie does his best to convince his friends and band mates that he isn’t going crazy and that he needs their help to find his cat. The combination of an alien presence and a feline absence set off a chain of events that bring a cast of absurd characters into contact and conflict with each other. The chapters alternate viewpoints between Ollie, the alien, his friends, and several of his neighbors, some of whom get up to some very strange extracurricular activities.

I enjoyed this book, but I do feel like its breeziness made it seem a bit slight. I wanted a quick read, but I also wanted a bit more from this premise. I’ve read a few of those big, kaleidoscopic novels about disparate characters on the periphery of an event – Skippy Dies comes to mind – and I love when a novel digs in to the personalities and motivations of a huge ensemble. The Intergalactic Interloper plays with that notion but perhaps doesn’t take it far enough. Also, one of the story threads about Ollie’s neighbor Constance feels like quirkiness for the sake of it.

Price Waldman narrates the audiobook, bringing, a perfect level of of arch humorousness to the absurd proceedings. I definitely think his performance adds to the entertainment value of the book, and would recommend checking it out in audio.

I’ll keep an eye out for more books by Heras. This is a promising debut, and a decent way to spend a few hours forgetting your troubles and the state of the world outside.

Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A amusing example of NYC apt life

This book mainly takes place in a apartment complex in a low Rent part of town. The MC, Ollie has a cat that has gone missing and while on the Fire Escape looking for his cat see a Alien on the roof. I would have enjoyed this story much more if the aliens had interacted with the other characters more instead of main at the end of story. I had hope this would be a Humorous read, and some parts were but mainly various tennents sticking their nose in each others business. Narrator was alright but did not really bring story to life.

The Intergalactic Interloper

Ollie is a young man who is living in NY. He has a job and friends who are in his band, Zara is the only female in it and he does like her but she seems not interested, He let his cat go out the cat door and Ollie is out looking for him the next morning. Then as he is looking, he watches as a two headed turtle shots a pigeon. Now he is facing finding his lost cat and worrying over the aliens he's seen. Unbeknownst to him, some of his neighbors are slowly coming to face the reality of aliens also. But will anyone believe any of them?
Price Waldman brings all these quirky characters to life from the alien to each earthling as they stumble towards "enlightenment"!?
A fantastic and comedic audio and story.

Only in NYC...

The Intergalactic Interloper is a cute and sometimes silly story. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of the interesting alien visitors and the humans who unwittingly experienced their first contact.

Delas Heras did a great job of keeping my interest throughout, and I loved the ending!

Price Waldman’s narration was well done. He certainly captured the personalities of each of the characters.
