About this listen

She'll fall in love again... with a man and the island. Charlotte returns to her Aunt Bess and Mackinac Island, a quaint retreat that welcomes summer tourists and allows no cars to renew herself and write about the island's ghosts.

She's come to help Bess with her heartache, an ended love with Shaun, and to renew a friendship with neighbor Hannah.

In winter Mackinac closes down and everyone looks forward to the ice bridge that freezes across the Straits of Mackinac.

Until Hannah disappears into the icy waters crossing it.

Everyone says it's an accident. But Charlotte and her admirer cop friend, Mac, don't think so. Something isn't right. Hannah was too smart to go off the path.

So it's murder.... but why.... how.... by whom?

In the end, it's Mac - and perhaps Hannah's ghost - who saves Charlotte and Bess's lives when the killer decides they're too close to the truth and tries to kill them, too.

A Delightful Story

What did you love best about The Ice Bridge?

I liked that the islanders called the tourists 'fudgies' I live in a town that gets seasonal tourists, and they sure do buy a lot of fudge! Hilarious!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hannah, the neighbor, she's such a character! She reminds me of my grandmother.

What about Ashley Arnold’s performance did you like?

Her voice is very easy to listen to. She distinguishes between characters effortlessly, and is clear and precise.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story of Charlottes breakup made me angry, and the story of Mac and Melissa was pretty sad.

Any additional comments?

This is a great listen, and fairly PG, so I let my preteen son listen, too. He enjoyed it.

A good listen.

Any additional comments?

Charlotte moves to Mackinac Island when her fiance breaks her heart and runs off with her best friend. She wants to pursue her dream of writing a book, and what better place than a place that's rumoured to have ghosts. While there she meets the enigmatic Mac, the local cop, he gives her leads to people who have seen ghosts. He then tells her the tale of the Ice Bridge ghosts.

During winter, the island gets cut off from the mainland, apart from a stretch of water that freezes over and becomes the Ice Bridge. The islanders know that the bridge isnt always safe and some say that the ghosts of the dead roam the bridge at night. Charlotte is intrigued and gets the islanders story. She is terrified of the bridge though and doesn't like to cross it, that is until her friend and neighbour goes missing and the only way to the mainland is to cross the bridge.

When it comes to light that Hannah went through the ice, Charlotte and Mac need to figure out how. They find out that it may not of been accidental so both need to figure out who did it and why.

This, for me, was first and foremost a sweet romance. Charlotte and Mac find themselves drawn to each other and despite Charlotte needing time to get over her ex, Mac is always there when she needs him. I really liked reading their story.

The mystery kind of let the book down. I found it to be lacking suspects. Usually there is at least a handful of suspects and it's fun trying to whittle it down, so I felt let down that there wasn't any.

The ghosts aspect was well done. I enjoyed the idea that the place was so haunted and the ice bridge, even without the ghosts, was scary enough. I couldn't imagine crossing something so big that is frozen over!!

Anyway, in all it's a cute love story. Again Kathryn Meyer Griffith has created an awesome character driven story which I know a lot of people will enjoy. She always puts so much into her characters, that it shows.

I listened to the audio and while I did think that the narrator did a good job, I kind of wanted her to differentiate each character a little more. I also wanted her to bring more to the characters to make them pop from the audio. Still I enjoyed the story overall and would recommend it to anyone who likes a character driven story.

Very exciting!

Charlotte was heart broken. Her fiance broke off their engagement by email saying he has already married her best friend, EX best friend. Charlotte goes back to Mackinac Island to be with her Aunt Bess. Charlotte used to spend her summers here.

While being on the Island, Charlotte meets Mac, the local police officer. Charlotte says she always wanted to be a writer. Mac tells her she could write stories about the Island ghosts. Writing this book becomes her new distraction. Then a friend of Bess's, Hannah disappears. They fear she feel in the Straits of Mackinac. In the winter, this freezes up and they call it "The Ice Bridge" .

I loved this book! It is exciting, adventurous, dangerous, suspenseful, mystery, and even love! So many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat & surprise you with the ending!

The author, Kathryn Meyer Griffith , once again did an awesome job writing this book! The plot is superb. The characters bring on a life of their own. The narrator, Ashley Arnold delivered this story flawlessly with all her multiple voices and accents. I loved the ending of this story too! Definitely worth reading!

Loved the atmosphere & setting

I really enjoyed this book. It was very atmospheric with the cold winters and ice and snow everywhere. I loved the whole setting of Mackinac Island and I found the concept of the ice bridge fascinating. The characters were interesting, there was mystery, suspense, and even romance. The characters seemed so real and were well-developed. I loved the paranormal aspect to the book with Charlotte writing a book about the ghost sitings on the island. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book, and I enjoyed the narration. The narrator had good pacing and character differentiation. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read, and if you like mystery, paranormal, or just books that have a small-town atmosphere, I highly recommend it.

Average, but not a waste of time.

Captivating setting. Ghost concept could have been better developed. Plot expectable. Stilted dialog. Unfortunate narration. Okay overall.
