Notes from the author: The following is a short story I wrote in the Elantris world back in January of 2006. At that point, Elantris had been out in stores for only about seven or eight months, but I actually hadn’t written anything new on the story or world since 2000, when I’d finished the first draft of the original book.

There were always a few holes in the manuscript where I decided not to include viewpoints or sections of explanation in the name of streamlining, particularly at the end. In the back of my mind, I knew what happened. This story talks about one of those holes; it is meant to be heard after you’ve finished the novel and takes place during the events of the climax. In the annotation, I’ve written a further explanation of why I wrote this piece. Some of you may find it interesting to hear this ahead of time; I put it in the annotation, however, as I know others would rather enjoy the story without bias beforehand, then hear my thoughts afterward. Either way, if you haven’t listened to Elantris, this contains major spoilers. Might I suggest listening to the book first? This story won’t work at all for you if you haven’t.

An Entertaining Short Side Story

After listening to Stormlight, this was a nice addition. It fills a small gap in the original story that wasn't covered in Elantris. Even though it's very short, I found it emotionally powerful, and I gained a quick connection to the characters.

This is a great story that fills a hole in the main story line, and I like the idea of the "movie in your mind" reading of the story. unfortunately, the execution leaves something to be desired. the music is too loud and the transition from internal to external dialog is non existent. otherwise, actors are great, story is great, and I really like hearing the pronunciations of the names.

I always wondered what happened during the one battle to the children- and this answered that! I really enjoyed this

I was able to get past the pronunciation and still enjoy the story. I was just happy for a little side story and some more detail.

A short and sweet radio drama.

The Hope of Elantris was a good story, I always enjoy full cast productions because they bring the story to life in a way that is difficult for most single narrators to do. This story was no exception; it was exactly as good as you'd expect a 38 minute long radio drama to be. If you're already a fan Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere books, this may be on that you enjoy as much as Sanderson's other short stories - and for the price - it's worth a listen. If you've never read anything from the Cosmere before, this is not an entry point. You will be completely lost if you haven't read Elantris.

interested yet contlicted

part of me likes the voices, but the tracks did not seem to blend very well. lot of weird effects going on and i am not sure that they all improve the telling, tho the ambiance is neat.

I struggled with this, due mainly to the "children's" performances. Dull and not engaging

I almost cried in less than 30 minutes...this is awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Good story, poor execution

Why would they not listen to Elantris and at least try to pronounce name’s correct? Great short story, Graphic Audio should be ashamed though.

Quick jaunt back to the world of Elantris

This is a fun, quick story that could have come directly from the pages of the original book. I picked it up to see what the dramatized full cast recording sounds like as I have the original one narrator version of Elantris. Overall, the extra cast and sounds effects make the story feel more like a movie than a book. This is done very well but I'm still on the fence if all the extras are more of a distraction than an enhancement. I don't think such a short listen is enough to form an opinion, but it did leave me open to exploring a full dramatized recording to see if I enjoy the experience. If I had to choose today, I still prefer a one narrator recording.
