Acerca de esta escucha

The true story from the major motion picture In Darkness, official 2012 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.

In 1943, with Lvov's 150,000 Jews having been exiled, killed, or forced into ghettos and facing extermination, a group of Polish Jews daringly sought refuge in the city's sewer system. The last surviving member this group, Krystyna Chiger, shares one of the most intimate, harrowing, and ultimately triumphant tales of survival to emerge from the Holocaust. The Girl in the Green Sweater is Chiger's harrowing first-person account of the 14 months she spent with her family in the fetid, underground sewers of Lvov.

The Girl in the Green Sweater is also the story of Leopold Socha, the group's unlikely savior. A Polish Catholic and former thief, Socha risked his life to help Chiger's underground family survive, bringing them food, medicine, and supplies. A moving memoir of a desperate escape and life under unimaginable circumstances, The Girl in the Green Sweater is ultimately a tale of intimate survival, friendship, and redemption.

I really like this book. What the people had to go through was horrific in every way. The author was able to bring me into the story, and it felt like I was walking with everyone as they went through their struggles. I highly recommend this book!

Very sad, but very well written

Voice was too sing-song for content. The story was amazing. It was just a bit irritating to listen to

This was a very detailed, well-written story of a little Jewish girl trying to survive through WWII. Her father did everything he could to save his family and keep them safe.
I truly enjoyed how the narrator spoke for authenticity of the different languages spoken in the book.

Didn’t know about the sewers

This book was recommended to me and I’m so glad I took the time to read it. What a beautiful, heartbreaking, heroic story. This family suffered so much. I’m not sure if there was a happy ending except the fact that the war ended and they were free. But not free from ridicule and wonder of how they survived. One year and 2 months of living in the sewers as a family much less as a child is hard to grasp.
The green sweater now lies in at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Amazing story

I was not prepared for the realistic narration and the powerfully moving emotions that the story in this book brought up. It is wonderfully written and narrated and you find yourself feeling like you are right there with this family. I highly recommend this book. It will draw you in and you will began to slowly hang on to each word. I just finished the audiobook and it will take me awhile to process it all before I move to a new one. It drained me...in a good way.

Was like actually being there

This beautifully accounted memoir of a family surviving in the sewers of Lvov under the Nazi regime is an important reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust - NEVER to be forgotten - but also of the power of survival over adversity and the triumph of the human spirit and will. One of the most powerful audiobooks I've ever listened to with wonderful narration by Romy Nordlinger who had the perfect mix of emotion and restraint.

Harrowingly empowering story beautifully narrated
