Acerca de esta escucha

Filip Müller came to Auschwitz with one of the earliest transports from Slovakia in April 1942 and began working in the gassing installations and crematoria in May. He was still alive when the gassings ceased in November 1944. He saw millions come and disappear; by sheer luck he survived. Müller is neither a historian nor a psychologist; he is a source - one of the few prisoners who saw the Jewish people die and lived to tell about it. Eyewitness Auschwitz is one of the key documents of the Holocaust.

The horror of this event is almost incomprehensible. To understand is life changing. To teach the next generations is invaluable. Highly recommended.

This is the second time I’ve read this book. The descriptive manner of writing leaves nothing to the imagination to build upon.

The Inhumanity of Man

I appreciate the author and narrative for their ability to bring these experiences to life. This truly shows the level to which some human beings can go in their cruelty to fellow man. It also shows the resilience and strong will to survivors people have. My heart goes out to all the survivors, families and friends left behind to bear the losses of their loved ones.

Extremely Sad

A harsh and horrific look into the life in a camp. It’s a good book, not for the faint of heart.

I listened to this book after listening to “I Escaped From Auschwitz” by Rudolf Vrba. I did this because I recognized the name Filipe as being someone who is mentioned in Vrba’s book. This book adds to the understanding of the story after Vrba’s book (which I highly recommend!), though this book is in and of itself worth listening to.

The reader was pretty good. His biggest strength was his ability to pronounce all the German. Sometimes he over emphasized certain things- words or emotions. For example the word “organize” was slang for getting and possessing any contraband (food, cigarettes, money, etc.) and for quite a while he kept saying that word in an over-exaggerated, nudge nudge wink wink kind of way that felt like it was in quotes but wasn’t intended to be that way by the original author. Things like that happened.

What he experienced and his story are very historically significant.

Listen to this and then…

We must never forget the evil in man’s heart. Forgive us Lord. We all fall short without your guidance.

First hand account of Holocaust.
