About this listen
From phenomenally successful fantasy author Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time) comes The Fallon Pride, the second installment in the Fallon series, now available for the first time in audiobook format.
Like his father before him, Robert Fallon finds his destiny is also twisted around a double-edged fate, which will mark him for life - the unbearable attraction of forbidden love and the seductive call of war. As Captain of the Osprey, he has sailed the globe to avoid the woman he should not desire. But the rumblings of war are once again echoing across a struggling young nation and Robert must return to South Carolina.
Waiting for him is the War of 1812. The British are attempting to reclaim the Colonies and the White House is in flames. From the ravines of Bladensburg to the bayous of New Orleans, Robert fights alongside the likes of Andrew Jackson and Jean Lafitte with a passion born of his Fallon blood - and a Fallon pride that will not let him fail.

Story
In 1765, Michael Fallon, an Irishman on the run from brutal English overlords, makes his way to Charleston, South Carolina, as an indentured servant. Bound over to Thomas Carver, a successful merchant, he quickly shows a knack for trade—and a disturbing attraction to Carver's beautiful, sensual daughter, Elizabeth. With luck and intelligence—and not without bloodshed—he rises into the rice-planting aristocracy of the Carolina Lowcountry, where a frontier spirit pulses beneath the superficial trappings of an agrarian society that is heading rapidly toward revolution.

Tonight the city is on edge, a hive of hurried, sometimes violent activity; its citizens bustle about, barring doors, shuttering windows, avoiding any stranger's stare. Because tonight there is to be a convergence, the once-in-a-generation appearance of a Shadow Moon - an occasion that threatens the good people of Malaz with demon hounds and other, darker things....

Twenty-four-year-old Cheney Duvall believes she will be taken seriously once she finishes medical school. Months later, however, she still is without a position; no one wants to consult a woman doctor. When she hears of a shipload of hopeful brides-to-be bound for Seattle, however, her luck changes. The ship's authorities are eager to have a woman physician on board. But once Cheney meets the 100 women - and her disturbing male nurse assistant - she fears she has gotten in way over her head.

Enjoyed
This second installment was pretty good. I've read a lot of historical fiction but not too much about the years following the American Revolution. I thought the narrator did a great job with the accents.
