About this listen

They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…

For years, Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.

Until his enemy's daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.

She's innocent. He's vicious. He will take back what he lost, no matter the price. Unless she steals his heart first.

Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom, where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.

This book ends on a cliffhanger. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series but can be listened to independently.

Pirate King x Princess

Rating: 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️
Genre/Trope:
- Enemies to Lovers
- Pirate King x Princess
- Fae Romance
- Found Family
- Unique Magic Setting
- Touch Her and Die
- Slow Burn Romance

I finally caved and dove into The Ever King, and the hype is real! This book had everything I love: a childhood connection that blossoms into romance, a strong female lead, and a deliciously complex "villain."

Livia is a breath of fresh air. She's not your typical warrior princess. She's unapologetically herself, knows what she wants, and isn't afraid to go after it. I absolutely adored her confidence and spirit.

**Erik, our scarred pirate king? **He might be labeled a villain, but his backstory is heartbreaking. And let's be honest, the "scarred king with a daddy vibe" thing? Yeah, that definitely added to the appeal.

The ending played out a bit predictably, and the world-building got me struggle a bit. However, these were minor bumps in an otherwise captivating read.

Overall, a solid fantasy romance with a unique enemies-to-lovers dynamic. I can't wait to see where the story goes next!

Pour Another One Out For My Hopes of a Good Read

The "Songbird" chapters all sound like they were read by a frightened deer while the "Serpent" ones by a middle-aged syphilitic pirate, wooden leg and sassy parrot optional.

The juxtaposition of those voices as well as having the narrators doing horrendous impressions of each other within their character's POV chapters really decimated the overall listening experience.

Why is it so hard to have the corresponding actor read their character's lines regardless of whose POV it is? It's sheer laziness that these weren't picked out and recorded as such. NOPE, let Long John Silver struggle through speaking in a higher pitch to sound like Bambi's mom and have the doe sound like she's trying to sneak into a gentlemen's only club. R.I.P. My enjoyment of any spicy scenes.

Story-wise, it's Hades/Persephone in a fae-spun Grishaverse, which made it all the more formulaic, like it was pieced together by a focus group.

Love the story… but the narration leaves something to be desired

I am enjoying this story and love the actual writing… but the narration feels like the voice actors are reading it for the first time and don’t know what tone to make the conversation. At one point a chapter ended and it felt like it ended mid sentence!
I kept listening because I didn’t have time to sit and read, but I really had to separate myself from the readers because I hated their acting choices. Additionally, this story has a ton of dialogue. If you are going to have a male and female voice, perhaps have them do all the dialogue for the male and female characters.
So in summary- the story is great but I wouldn’t be made if they made a new audiobook.

Good Read

Had me hooked once I got to chapter 3. I did not like the very beginning just because at first they seemed high class. But the enemy to lovers was fantastic!

Amazing Story, not so amazing voice acting.

This book is one of my all time favorites, so I was thrilled to see it duo narrated on audible. However, I had to skip almost every chapter from The Songbirds POV because it was just so cringe everytime she tried to do a male voice. it completely ruined the book for me. Bloodsingers voice was perfection, but it also left me cringing whenever he did Tidecallers voice.... I don't understand why they don't let the narrators narrate their own characters voices, it would have been a perfect score for me if they had done that minor thing. I hope they do a full cast narration in the future!
Story 5/5, narration 2/5. Go read it instead!
