Prince was a musical genius, one of the most beloved, accomplished, and acclaimed musicians of our time. The Beautiful Ones is the story of how Prince became Prince - a first-person account of a kid absorbing the world around him and then creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and fame that would come to define him. This work is not just a tribute to an icon, but an original and energizing literary work in its own right, full of Prince’s ideas and vision, his voice and image - his undying gift to the world.

Story
In his three decades of recording, Prince has had nearly thirty albums hit the Billboard Top 100. He is the only artist since the Beatles to have a number one Album movie, and single at the same time. Prince’s trajectory - from a teenage unknown in Minneapolis to an idol and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - has won him millions of adoring fans. Prince is the first book to give full treatment to this thirty-year career of epic proportions. Acclaimed music journalist Ronin Ro traces Prince’s rise from anonymity in the late 70s, to his leap to stardom in the 80s, to his 21st-century reemergence....

Story
Drawing on new research and enlivened by Touré's unique pop-cultural fluency, I Would Die 4 U relies on surprising and in-depth interviews with Prince's band members, former girlfriends, musicologists, and even Bible scholars to deconstruct the artist's life and work. Prince's baby boomer status allowed him to play a wise older brother to the latchkey kids of Generation X. Defying traditional categories of race, gender, and sexuality, he nonetheless presented a very traditional conception of religion and God in his music.

People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of 60, with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and California, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f--king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time. A lot of it ain't gonna be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. But I ain't the devil.

Story
For decades, osteopathic physician Larry Nassar built a sterling reputation as the go-to doctor for America's Olympians while treating countless others at his office on Michigan State University's campus. It was largely within the high-pressure world of competitive gymnastics that Nassar exploited young girls, sexually assaulting hundreds of them under the guise of medical treatment. In Start by Believing, John Barr and Dan Murphy confront Nassar's acts, which represent the largest sex abuse scandal to impact the sporting world.

As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

Prince's baby boomer status allowed him to play a wise older brother to the latchkey kids of Generation X. Defying traditional categories of race, gender, and sexuality, he nonetheless presented a very traditional conception of religion and God in his music.

Fascinating
Very interesting, highly detailed description of the investigation into prince's death. Like having a bird's eye view of the whole scene. Highly recommend for true crime fanatics or anyone looking for more insight into this mysterious death. It's ironic that someone who guarded his privacy to such an extreme extent ended up having his life examined so thoroughly in death but..thats what happens when you overdose. I imagine the negative reviews might be from people inside his circle attempting to guard the remnants of his privacy

It was an interesting listen and so indicative of the times we live in. Prince was a complex individual who was obviously way too trusting of others.

Great information
It’s great to have someone read all this info rather than go over the documents yourself.
Of course the narrator could of been much better. Mispronouncing Princes first wife’s name shows he isn’t much a fan. While I don’t think you have to be a fan or even like the material you read as a narrator, it’s distracting at points with his breathy delivery.
But the information provided made up for the narrator.

Tragic Story
Loved the book. A lot of insight, although it saddens me that someone, or several someones, enabled him literally to death. Someone on his team knows something. So sad he died all alone, and such irony that he was found by someone that was there to help him into recovery. Heartbreaking.

Accurate?
I was left feeling very skeptical about the accuracy of the data. The names of 2 main characters in Prince's past had their names repeatedly mispronounced.
Add that to a couple of incorrect usages of the English language and all I can say is "disappointing".
If you can't successfully complete the due diligence on the "common knowledge" items, how am I supposed to believe you were careful with details?
