IT'S PORK CHOP EATIN' TIME 2

Review of Audiobook- The Cure: A Black Ghost Thriller, Book 2 by Freddie Villacci Jr., Performed by Scott Brick

This is the second book of the Black Ghost Thriller series and all I can say is what an adventure! From the beginning of this book until the end, we are presented with twists, turns, and OMG’s.
The Black Ghost, aka Bic is on a mission to locate the man who turned his life upside down, and shove a porkchop down his throat! That man is Bic’s father, and things get interesting real quick.

Back to Bic’s niece Gracie, Big Pharma does not stop their attempts at wiping her cancer cure, as well as Gracie herself, off the face of the world. Uncle Bic has to step in again! You’ll want to listen in on how this one transpires. For me, I am patiently waiting until the third book in the series has come out! Stellar job Freddie Villacci Jr.!

Scott Brick did his thing again! The man is just plain scary good. From narrating the bible to narrating Bic, the Black Ghost assassin with a catchphrase of “IT'S PORK CHOP EATIN' TIME", Brick never disappoints.

I was given a copy of this audiobook for review purposes and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Now this is a THRILLER !!!!

Wow! I truly enjoyed the first book (Black Ghost) in this new series written by a new author. This book has got to be equally as good. Both books have a rather strange ending but and I guess in a way it goes, just not the kind of end you would expect.
This book begins with Bic Green’s niece (a research scientist) gets kidnapped and her research team is murdered. She is framed as a terrorist. The reason why is she has found a cure for cancer. The big pharmaceutical companies don’t want her going public with her findings. There is too much money for them to loose. Bic Green is a former assassin forced to use his skills to rescue his niece , while being haunted by the memories of his murderous father. His father had killed his mother and almost him.
This is a taught thriller that kept me riveted right through to the end.
Scott Brick does an outstanding job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Loved it!

I enjoyed the first book, Black Ghost, and was excited to listen to The Cure. While Bic was a bad character I grew to love in the first book, Gracie was an amazing character with a heart of gold. It was awesome to get to know her. Scott Brick gave a flawless performance. Love the story, loved the narration. 5+ stars

OMG..these books just keep me on the edge.

I was provided an Audible code for this book. I am so pleased to leave this review as a result of listening to The Cure by Freddie Vallacci. To start off I believe that to really enjoy and understand this book if you haven't already you might want to take a step back and start with the first book Black Ghost. This is a series that stretches my sense of how many dimensions there could be to the human experience. In all honesty this type of novel until recently I would have totally ignored with disinterest. I am so glad that as an avid reader I have chosen to expand within the genres I enjoy to the the more edgy type work. You may not see this as that type of novel, yet in my experience this series is a new direction for me to explore. Ghost or paranormal concepts have eluded me for years. I am grateful that I walked past that bias as this is an exceptional novel by am equally amazing author. Scott Brick does an awesome job utilizing his talent at a narrator in bringing all the emotional and action intensity of this work to the reader. I was on the edge of my seat through most of this novel.

Lots of Action

It’s helpful to read book 1 before this sequel. The story gets going right away, and I found it to be just as entertaining as the first book.

I have the same gripe from this book, as I did with the first, the author gets his terms mixed up when referring to the gun’s “magazine”. The term “clip” if often used incorrectly. If an author is going to write this kind of story, then getting well versed in the mentioned weaponry is a must.

I would like to thank the author for sending me this Audible book, for free, in exchange for an unbiased review.

Ugh! (w/ Edit)

I was so hopeful of this series that I brought the first two books, especially given the ratings (4.6..., really!). I could not make it through the first and returned it. Tried to return the second one but Audible declined. So, I gave this book a shot. I found it maddeningly frustratingly. Nonetheless, I pressed on. Often throughout, my response was 'ugh!'. So many cliches in my estimation; the narrator felt spot on for some of the characters, and woefully lacking for others; For me, the Gracie character was not particularly endearing; the villains were more convincing and flavorful, Black Ghost was incapacitated in some way or other throughout the book, it seems; that father/voodoo theme was straight annoying; and my god, the 'pork chop eating time' line, presumable meant to be bad ass and declarative, just felt stupid..., to me, Probably some association I have as an African American male. It felt, to me, that the line has a lite tone deafness to it... There were also a few bright moments where I found myself saying, 'Now THAT seems original, or THAT was a nice twist on things...' But as a body of work, I sadly cannot recommend this book. This is just one person's opinion.
Edit 3/29/22: Though my viewpoint above remains largely the same, I've changed my review to accommodate for this being a first time series writer. From that point of view, this is a book is not lacking in bits of interesting content, and it's not lacking in lots of twists and turns, some quite interesting. I'm "spoiled" by writings of heavyweights like Mark Greaney, Barry Eisler, Tom Wood, Robert Dugoni, etc... But even they were beginning writers at one time, of course. So, I have adjusted my rating from one to two stars to accommodate this freshman effort. All the best to the author as he evolves this series, or future writings.
