About this listen

When a sink hole opens up near the Australian outback town of Pintalba, it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the subterranean passages as paramedic support, hoping to remain unneeded at base camp. But, when one of the cavers is injured, he must overcome paralyzing claustrophobia to dive pitch-black waters and squeeze through the bowels of the earth.

Soon he will find there are fates worse than being buried alive, for in the abandoned mines and caves beneath Pintalba, there are ravenous teeth in the dark.

As a savage predator targets the group with hideous ferocity, Sam and his friends must fight for their lives if they are ever to see the sun again.

Unique creature feature

Fun listen. There were a few inconsistencies in the storyline an editor should have caught. The narrator didn’t do female voices well. Sometimes it was a struggle to know who was talking. But that Australian accent? AWESOME to listen to!
Overall, good story.

Australian creature feature

Continuing my creature feature literary trek around the world with this tale from Australia. This one was a lot of fun and would make a really great movie. The caves of Australia are home to an alien creature called the Miner’s Mother which is both amphibious and a chameleon. There’s a lot of gory mayhem here.

okay story, leaves much to the imagination

helped pass the time, draws on readers horror film knowledge to get the scenes. I have a pretty good imagination, and the narrator relayed the story.

Interesting story.

Perfect amount of time to tell the story. Not drawn out. Interesting characters. Kept me interested and wanting to hear the end.

I had so much anxiety listening to this

This book gave me anxiety to the nth degree. I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing; the author did an amazing job. I loathe tight spaces. I hate diving, I hate being underground and I'm not a fan of knowing that there's something higher on the food chain than me. This book had the trifecta. The narrator left a bit to be desired (the women honestly sounded like Korg from the Marvel movies to me), but I am willing to look past that because the story made up for it. I'd love to see more from this author in the future. Side note...don't eat while listening to this.

Interesting concept...

It was an okay listen. I loved the idea of it, but found myself not caring about the characters, which made it hard to love it.

Scary mer-folk

If I could I give it 3.5 stars. An enjoyable sci-fi horror, lots of tension in the right places. But the female characters contribute nothing to the story. They can't do anything but play victim or crazy villains who nonsensical logic really annoyed me. When two characters are in a scene together, I hate when the point of view character is able to engage in some kind of action, while the second just stands around unable to move or speak until after its too late for the point of view character. Otherwise for s monster book, this was okay.

Boring

There was not thrill. You know what is down there hunting in the first chapter. You get a hint of something more when sacrifices are offered by towns folk. But you still know the creature and what is coming. I gave up bored and disgusted after a detailed description of a lamb sacrificed and the second group seeing the same thing

creepy fun listen

I absolutely loved this book the narrator was amazing and his voice is calming and thrilling at the same time. some parts left me laughing so hard and other parts I hate to pause because eeeek. I'm not trying to give to much away but some moments I was like are these guys idiots they have stupid. also spoiler and question. Trevor and Cass did they really think oh hey I'm going to stop the miners mother by luring out and killing the only paramedic for a sacrifice.
