Narrator is very hard to understand!

Jack Daniels, PI, is snarky and smart. I love the compassion he shows to others. This is a short, easy listen.

I had a difficult time understanding the narrator. He mumbles, runs his words together, and it sounds like he's sucking on a cough drop. I turned my player down to 0.75 speed so I could understand him.

A Good Detective Short Story

The Candy Man was a fun listen. It's a noir-ish detective story based on the character Jack Daniels. His character is full-bodied and the story is solid although short. I enjoyed it. Good writing by John holt.

Joe Voegler's voice was great for Jack Daniels. He had a lot of characterization and voice inflections. He sounded like the real deal.

An overall good combination with story and reader.

Bad narrator

I believe the story would have been great but this narrator was the right one. Found the voice grating on my nerves and could not enjoy the audiobook

fun and witty PI story

If you want a quick listen and want to enjoy a good PI book, take a listen to "The Candy Man". It is fun and cleverly written in the first person,which made for a great listen.

I liked how the narrator, Joe Voegler, held you captive by bringing each of the characters to life, especially the main character Jack Daniels!

Good quick mystery

A short mystery that has an unexpected ending. The story is well written.
The narration is okay. It got better after listening to the entire story. However he is hard to listen to and understand at times.

I will definitely listen to more of John Holt's books. Hopefully with a new narrator.

Good Start

This is a good start to the series. I enjoyed the story and the almost noire feel. The narration did this story no favors, however. I think this would definitely benefit from a re-record.

Good Mystery

A good mystery although the narrator telling the tale, doesn't sound like the age he's suppose to be. He sounds more like GrampPa Jack, telling the tale to his grandkids. But the story was enjoyable and a quick listen and you enjoy the characters non-the-less .It also had a sharp wit when called for. So when you get a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.

when the narrator makes the story brilliant

this book is one of the examples of why Audible is for me the storyline was nice the book was interesting and not bad at all for a short story like this but what made this book absolutely perfect is the narrator I enjoyed the narrator so freaking much that I'm sure I will search more books of this narrator I don't have any other words to say because the narrator was just wow

A great mystery. A short and well written story. These are a great series to listen to. Each book carries on where the other left off.

Good story from what I understood!

I like John Holt's stories...the Jack Daniel's character was great. Kind of an old style detective show...to include "the Dame" but sadly the narration was not good. Hardest time understanding what was said...
