About this listen

Dark forces have extended Edward Wright an offer of incredible power at a terrible cost...and Edward has chosen to make them regret it.

When Edward is swept into the world of Ivalis as a Dungeon Lord, the Dark's most powerful servant, he has no servitude in mind. He'll oppose the evil plans of the Dark god, Murmur, whatever it takes.

Through only his wits and his guts to help him survive a weakened arrival, Edward must rise to power if he is to earn the right to live another day. But in the battle between Dark and Light, what can Edward choose if both sides are cruel, uncaring monsters? Cold gods laugh in the distant world of Ivalis. Heroes chase after power and experience, while Kings send their armies to their deaths in the name of the Dark and the Light.

But no one expects the rise of the Dungeon Lord.... And in the world of Ivalis, maybe a single man can forge his own path.

With the One Man Theater himself at the helm, joined by the sensational Annie Ellicott as two of the most disturbing monsters ever produced by Soundbooth Theater, we hope you never forget this horrifying LitRPG experience.

Over all too soon!!

I'll be honest here, I am beginning to listen to just about everything I can find that Jeff Hays records. The man is vocal monster, and his range is scary. DL sees him providing ever newer voices to his repertoire and th world is better for it. The man is a vocal monster, and I think his taste in choosing what to read is almost at the same level. I don't know how he picks his books, but I have never heard him narrate a dud. Annie Ellicot does a great job here, too. the pair work seamlessly together that is reminiscent of Old Time Radio Dramas, but much much better.

DL 1, looks to be like the first in a long line of books; I am happy to say. It has a great style, lots of humor, and a gross and terrifying monster to trouble our "evil" Dungeon Lord and his minions. Hugo keeps the book nicely paced, and it is always interesting. Additionally, it handles the "I live in a video game" troupe in a cool way. One of the things I really enjoy is getting to watch the main character level up, and I had to laugh when the MC complains that he hardly got any experience for killing a high level monster. The explanation he gets was completely justifiable, and not something you see in these LitRPG novels nowadays. The hero is clever, intelligent, and brave but not suicidal or stupid. He behaves in a logical and reasonable manner.

This is a great book, and I most highly recommend it to you. Go read it now, so we can get more of Lord Wraith's adventures.

Amazing, a must listen.

Love it. It plays like a television show, the main character is very relatable and it carries a lot of the story as you root for his success and worry for his struggles.

A good read

The best part of this story was the way the main character, was a dungeon master, or lord... really. It put an completely new spin on the genre and was a fun listen. Jeff Hayes proves again why he is one of the best in the business as he assumes many entirely believable characters, and tells the story in a way that immerses you in the world. Good listen.

A great RPG lit. Viewed from the other side.

This book is well written and crafted in its detail and delivery.
A slightly different view to the normal RPGlit / Fantasy genre.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it being about a Dungeon lord instead of a standard questing hero is a wonderful change to normal books. The character are well defined and develop at a lovely pace. You find yourself pulled into this world and want to know more and keep listening.

The performance by Soundbooth Theatre is immersive and perfectly delivered. The added effects and attention to detail shows through and increases the enjoyment of a good story.

I urge you to give this a try if you are looking for a slightly different hero story.
I look forward to the next instalment and hope that it is as well executed as the first.

A fun LitRPG

What made the experience of listening to Dungeon Lord the most enjoyable?

Jeff Hays' narration makes anything better. He has so many varying voices and effects that it totally immerses you in the story. Also, this is the second time I have heard something he has narrated with Annie Ellicott and they work very well off of one another, and I look forward to hearing her in more of his productions.

What did you like best about this story?

Edward's alignment in the story is what is an entertaining and unique thing in the book. I like that he is what in the world is considered a blight and villainous, but he is trying to battle against it and not let darkness overtake his actions.

Which scene was your favorite?

The climactic fight, which was more of multiple battles connected. It was entertaining and cool to see the character string together the things he has learned to overcome the situations he finds himself in.

Any additional comments?

A fun LitRPG, and one where a character picks to enter the world(even if slightly coerced) instead of just being teleported or forced. It has elements of personal power as well as a future empire he will have to build up. The pacing is good and the setup for future installments is solid. I look forward to the next book.

A good read. Need more.

There were some interesting moments, some good, some kinda dark. Some foul language but mostly fits the characters and an intimate scene not exactly fit for children. Overall, it was pretty good. Quick to get into the story and easy to understand. Performance was excellent, story was descent. I will be sure to follow this series to the next book.
