About this listen

Friday the 13th of November 1942 - WWII in the Pacific: Shadows knife through the sea’s obsidian canvas with ships of the US Navy and Imperial Japanese Navy on a collision course. Probing search lights signal the moment of violence is at hand. The blast of massive naval guns shatters the calm as red streaks across the darkness betray the presence of shells that will tear metal to shreds and even worse to human flesh.

Kyle von Bergen has no idea that a firsthand account of one of the most chaotic naval battles in history is sitting in the recliner of the "Crappy Apartment" where he now lives with his recently divorced mother. In his teenage perspective, all he sees is inconvenience dealing with an old man who is moving in with them. He never imagines the WWII adventure that is about to unfold or how it will impact his life.

An inspiring story within a story.

The main story of the book is relatable to most students growing up in the times that we find ourselves in. Just trying to make it through the everday trials of life, especially on the days where life throws you a curve. in the end, he finds that the bully isn't as powerful as he had first thought.

The story within the story is what really keeps drawing you in. His Great Grandpa's story is what sets this book apart. It is a fictional story that gives you a glimpse into the story of some real historical heroes.
