Publisher's summary

A Highland warrior battles to reclaim his birthright in the first of a new series filled with seduction, revenge, and soul-stirring passion....

They call him the Beast - a hardened mercenary whose heart seems as cold as his icy blue gaze. They do not know his true name: Niall Braewick, son of the Laird of Kincaid. It has been years since he escaped into the forest the night his father was murdered. Now he has returned, ablaze with a vengeful hunger. He will gain the MacClaren chief's trust, gather his clan, and take back his lands. And take the MacClaren's daughter as well....

Though he pulled her from the river, saving her life, Elspeth has been warned to keep her distance from her father's hired warrior. He is a barbarian - a shame, as he is far more compelling than the lechers and fools competing for her dowry. Little does she know that, like the castle itself, she is a prize Niall intends to claim...but will he extract blood for blood and possess what is his, or will his enemy's beautiful, innocent daughter tempt him to forsake his dream of conquest?

Contains mature themes.

Very good story, wonderful narration

The book felt very period, developed characters, not a predictable story. Drew me in early and kept me going until the end. Next book will be hers.Narrator has excellent voice for characters and diction, did the story justice. The men were manly and the women were feminine. Great job. I will watch for her with other audiobooks for sure.

Good Story

The sex scenes were too much and took away from the story. It would have been great with out

if tattoos were tutus...

This was great until the narrator started saying the word tattoo. It's arresting but you get used to it. Otherwise, well worth the credit!

Good

Both author and narrator are first for me. Ruth Urquhart did a good job. I had to get used to her pronunciation of "tatoo". I've never heard it pronounced the way she does. All in all the book was good. Worth the credit.😃

One of the Best Beginings to a Story

I LOVED the way this story started, I read quite a lot of historical romances and although there are few I dont read all the way thru. there are also few that I rate above a very average so/so 3. This one, and in fact every book in this three part series gets a better than average rating from me. I suppose it is a matter of personal preference. I also enjoyed the narrator. I am a fan of this particular narrator as well as Anne Flosnik, another narrator that people seem to either love or hate. I admit it took a while to get used to them, but now that I have, I prefer their style. Although I am an Audible Escape customer and can choose any number of books in that catagory a month, I would of been perfectly happy to of bought these books with credits or money as I think it's been one of the few selections that I would consider worth it. Take a peek....I think you will be able to tell quite quickly if it will be an enjoyable read for you.

good story overreaction on pronunciation

It was a good story the ending was a little anti-climatic but still good. I'd read the next one, as far as the narrator and her pronunciation of tattoo she actually has a Scottish accent and tattoo is not pronounce that weird neither is it said that often to interfere with the enjoyment of this book people that are complaining about someone's accent are just being Karen's

Good Story and narration

Best narration so far for this genre of books. Some of the books male characters sound like Forrest Gump with a Scottish brogue, and the females whine and act like ninnies.
Ruth does a good job with most of the accents.
