started out exciting but at the end DNF

the premise of the book and this cover had me super excited to start this. however this quickly became a story where the arch of the characters falls very flat, everything just falls into place in the plot, the love story is pretty stale, the heroine is supposed to be a great assassin (yet she constantly needs rescuing) and talks about killing people like a sociopath and then suddenly grows a consciousness, this was really not my cup of tea, I grew annoyed with the characters and the plot halfway through the book and didn't finish and really not interested in a second book of there is one.

This book has humor, action, magic, and snark. If you want a good listen use your credit and purchase this book. Needless to say Kasha Kensington’s narration did not fail to deliver.🔥❤️🔥

ok here's the deal

The story is not terrible and enjoyable at some parts. it's just the FML is dumb to me or is so stubborn that denial is the way of life. I love eves books usually so I don't understand why she wrote this character to be this way especially for a badass assassin. She seems to get herself into a lot of dumb situations where she almost dies because of her idiotic choices and that stunt she pulled when she met the grand wizard guy omg I literally wanted to stop the book for the stupidity. it's like she talks a good game about making smart choices to protect the king and make plan A B C but she is the only one about to lose her life off dumb decisions. Only characters I like was the barbarian king and his people and her adopted father they were great and funny.

Outstanding!!

I love her books, they fun and quirky. But this one beat them all! An amazing story line plus fantastic main characters. Absolutely loved the bada$$ heroine and all the great snark. Great chemistry and top it all off with a fantastic narrator! Best book I have read/listened to in a long time.

This story is by far my favorite of hers. Now I don't leave reviews, but this story deserves every word of praise and each of the 5 stars I have to give.
The main character has all of my favorite qualities violent, capable, driven, snarky ... etc.
I'm upset now. I want more of the story, but there isn't any yet... Get working Langlais!

I love the characters in this book and all the action in suspense. Can’t wait for the next one.

Wrongful start to this series

Great book, wonderful narrator, fun to listen to! 2/5 spicy I was expecting more but the story was so well written I didn’t notice.

If you are used to the normal irreverent romance from Eve this is a little different but SO good!

An assassin and Barbarian king together with action, romance, and comedy; what's not to love?!

The only constructive criticism I have is that the ending felt slightly rushed and I would've liked a little more explanation on the magic and creatures "return" and meaning. But those are probably for the next book. *fingers crossed* (Does not end in a cliffhanger, thank goodness!)
