About this listen

Fiona Turner wonders which challenge will be the death of her: the renovation of a massive, crumbling, centuries-old English castle to make it fit for the King and Queen of England, or turning an American into a proper English duchess.

As Princess Beryl's lady-in-waiting, Fiona's duties are usually limited to the tedium and tradition of royal functions. However, in preparation to host the king and queen's anniversary party, Princess Beryl has tasked Fiona to spearhead the renovation of a neglected but beautiful estate called Alabarden Park. The castle's latest young duchess, Alice Stewart, has agreed to the renovation and hosting the party, on the condition Fiona also help her manage the estate while she gets her bearings with a new peerage and sprawling inheritance. There is only one problem.

The new duchess is American. A reckless, cheerful, ebullient American.

Fiona's introversion and devotion to tradition has met its match against Alice's relentless effervescence and unorthodox ideas—but the constant friction creates an undeniable heat between them. When tragedy strikes, Fiona must choose between the royal duties close to her heart, or the duty she has to follow her heart.

interesting take on a Royal meets Commoner trope, and avoids unnecessary complications due to the will they won't they act. The narrator did a good with the southern accent the British accent could use a little work, it sounded like they had a cold; and she needs to project more but overall did a good job

great story and it avoided pitfalls

This is a novel you will enjoy over and over. The premise is unique and reading it you will have no problem suspending some of your knowledge of England and English history. The only problem I had with it is that it unfortunately does end. You will find yourself falling in love with the primary characters and find the readers ability to present them and their accents wonderful. Enjoy, I did.

OUTSTANDING!

This was a fun, well written story.
Did I mention fun, cause it was fun!
Down side.....the narration.....I don't know where to go with it, I want to be aware kind as Alice, but......
Take the time, read the book. The narrators voices were hard to listen to, and she stops and starts in no particular rhyme or reason, It was brutal.
If you have no choice but to listen, here is a tip, turn the speed up to 1.20, it helps it sound less like a chain saw with broken teeth trying to cut through stainless steel pipe filled with cheap tin foil.

Should have read this one.
