About this listen

When T. J. Wray lost her 43-year-old brother, her grief was deep and enduring and, she soon discovered, not fully acknowledged. Despite the longevity of adult sibling relationships, surviving siblings are often made to feel as if their grief is somehow unwarranted. After all, when an adult sibling dies, he or she often leaves behind parents, a spouse, and even children - all of whom suffer a more socially recognized type of loss.

Based on the author's own experiences, as well as those of many others, Surviving the Death of a Sibling helps adults who have lost a brother or sister to realize that they are not alone in their struggle. Just as important, it teaches them to understand the unique stages of their grieving process, offering practical and prescriptive advice for dealing with each stage.

Helpful for dealing with sibling loss

I enjoyed the structure of the book as well as the content. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that it talked about God from a believers perspective and I am an atheist so there was no talk about addressing lack of faith or questioning those beliefs within grief. So that chapter felt kind of like it didn't apply to me at all. Otherwise great read and worth it if you're dealing with the loss of a sibling.

Very helpful to those of us who have lost a precious brother!

This book helped me more than anything else after my brother died in June 2023. I have listened to it twice and would recommend it to anyone who has lost a close brother or sister.

My brother died

This book was so helpful to me. All the stories were so spot on for me. I cried through most of it but I felt such relief as well. I highly recommend it.

Robotic Reading

This sounds like it might have been read by AI. The narration is very distracting. This book is so emotional but the voice and pronunciations are so robotic. They don’t work well together. Narrator aside, I recently lost my only sibling and this helped me tap into some new feelings. Some of it is outdated and you can tell it was written by a boomer. Still, I was able to find it useful overall. I do recommend it if you’ve lost a sibling. If you’re reading this, I’m sorry for your loss.

Wonderful book

For my fellow grieving siblings, this is a wonderful book to let you know what you feel is normal and that you are not alone

Great information - difficult narration

I am grateful for the audio book and the well researched and annotated information. I will use the personal experiences related by the contributors and author. The narration was difficult and robotic. I changed the speed several times without resolution. I committed to finishing the work because I needed the information but I could easily have appreciated a more personable performance.

Thank you.
