Street Rats have a lot of Moxie

This was my first time to listen to a book written by Michael Wisehart. I did enjoy the listen. The title of the book does not make sense until you are well into the story, but the material preceding Aramoor were perhaps more interesting as the author was setting up the main story line. As noted, I enjoyed this. Time Gerard Reynolds needs no additional accolades from me. He is one of the best narrators/performers in the world.

I give the overall rating a 4 rather than a five because the story is highly predictable. Sometimes I really like that.

pretty good story

I was sceptical at first. but have it a try... can't wait for the next book

Enjoyable well written and entertaining.

Enjoyed this book from start to finish. The narrator is so good with all the voices of the characters.

The first book was better.

The second book or second part felt pointless why is he doing anything. Why did he even go there? it was completely pointless. Overall I enjoyed it. I just wish it ended after the first part and honestly the end of the first book wasn’t amazing ether. Underwhelming.

Makes TGR bearable

This is a dynamic and fun story. There is good character development and dimensionality to most characters. So, as long as you aren't looking for something along the lines of Tolkien, you can safely purchase this book.

The one thing this story does that no other book I have listened to has been able to do is to bring life to TGR. Don't get me wrong, he's a great narrator, but generally not a fun narrator and kills most humor in the books he narrates. This book somehow riffs off that and makes TGR enjoyable to listen to and moderately lively.

Sucked in!

Though the characters are younger I didn't get the feeling I was listening to another crappy YA book. It kept my interest from beginning to end. Will definitely be following to see what else these street rats get up to.

I was surprised several times and Loved every minute of it! I highly recommend this!

Great Story

This is the start of a wonderful journey, filled with challenges and growth. Fun story for the whole family.

Only read because I was told I had to

I only read this because I was told I had to before I read the next book in a different series so I could get caught up with all the characters. This, was basically a lie. I mean there’s some valuable backstory, but not a lot. Spoilers past this point if you want to skip the series and just get the cliff notes. Main character starts in his tribe. Duels the chief’s son and accidentally kills him. Gets exiled. Makes friends with river traders who are trying to break out slaves. Does that while winning the respect of the captain’s daughter. Goes to the big city. Gets jumped immediately by a gang. Joins another gang. Gets into a duel with a big freaky cannibal kid to resolve a gang dispute. Frees the big freak and starts a giant gang war fight. Gets vengeance on the people who jumped him and helps start a new gang with the big freaky kid and all his other compatriots. Okay, so there’s a lot of missing details, but that’s basically what happens in these two books. I don’t understand why on earth it was necessary to read. I suspect it wasn’t.

The Humble Beginnings of a Great Man

Coming to this book after reading White Tower and Plague of Shadows (The Aldoran Chronicles books 1 and 2) I wasn't sure if I'd like it. I was wrong. We met some of these characters, especially the protagonist, in books 1 and 2 of the Aldoran Chronicles and this is the story, in part, of how a group of street kids became the men and women we see protecting others in the latter series. You can see the morals they will hold as adults begin to take form. Adult Ayrion might have jumped to someones rescue but Child Ayrion hasn't cemented that part of his personality yet, and has to think about it first, to name just one example. I loved the story, pacing, and character development. I can't wait to finish both the Street Rats and Aldoran Chronicles series.
