Read this free excerpt from the audiobook:

"Humans have a bad habit of putting their emotional thoughts ahead of logical thinking. Part of being a good Stoic is thoroughly processing your emotions, but choosing to act logically. Being able to operate in total fairness is a virtue that is severely lacking in this world. A true Stoic works completely within the laws of nature and the idea of going against that for personal gain and emotional status will only lead to problems down the line. Acting selfishly is human nature, but it is this trait that often derails us.

"Being unbiased in your thinking gives you the ability to objectively see all of the possibilities presented to you. People who take only a possible solution to a problem into consideration, ignoring personal feelings toward the issue, or toward the person who is supplying the idea means, make the best decisions."

Reflective

Thought provoking. Too many times do I personally blame others, automatically even though I intend not to do so. Always retraining my brain to not blame. Stoicism can be applied to many areas. I do not believe there is a need for work/life balance. I believe it's a need to understand how to have both work together to provide health and objectivity in general.

Excellent Audiobook!

I found this book lots of things like self-discipline, mental toughness, leadership, wisdom, Etc. The author well explanation all of the information very easy to understand. A Complete Guide to Stoicism does an excellent job of explaining the philosophy and history of Stoicism. For those who may have anxiety over reading a philosophy book, let your fears be quelled. This element makes the book incredibly engaging and compelling. Overall, I walked away from the book feeling enlightened and intrigued with the philosophy. I read this book overall great.

Best Listened to like a lecture, in one sitting.

Overall I did enjoy this book. It came off like an informative lecture I would sign up for at a college. Giving you background, examples, how to apply the information to your life and suggestions for more resources to read if the subject interest you and you want to learn more. I will say my biggest struggle with the book is that the author often writes like hes speaking to a woman (with the examples he uses) and yet he always uses women as the over emotional non stoics and the on example of a good stoic is of course a single man. And a few examples he uses don't take into account the full picture of things in my opinion. Especially with the working mom example, he states the wife says the husband isn't helping enough with the kids and isn't understanding the importance of coming home on time to get them, and isn't helping to clean anything despite her working as well and then later that day she flips when he wears his dirty boots into the house and she has to clean up after him. And then says if she look at life more rationally then she wouldn't have started a fight with her husband when his only offence was wearing dirty boots into the house which isn't a big deal. That sat with me wrong, because clearly there is more to why shes upset and he is doing more wrong then wearing dirty boots into the house once. He uses the woman being upset with her husband over little thing example throughout the book. If you can get past a clear bias there, the rest of the book is great. And a good launching point to explore stoicism. I received a free copy of this book to listen to for an unbiased review.
