Publisher's summary

Celebrated actor, personality, and all-around nerd, Wil Wheaton updates his memoir of collected blog posts with all new material and annotations as he reexamines one of the most interesting lives in Hollywood and fandom--and now for the first time in audio, narrated by Wil himself, with an introduction written and read by Neil Gaiman!

From starring in Stand by Me to playing Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation to playing himself, in his second (third?) iconic role of Evil Wil Wheaton in The Big Bang Theory, to becoming a social media supernova, Wil Wheaton has charted a career course unlike anyone else, and has emerged as one of the most popular and well respected names in science fiction, fantasy and pop culture.

Back in 2001, Wil began blogging on wilwheaton.net. Believing himself to have fallen victim to the curse of the child actor, Wil felt relegated to the convention circuit, and didn’t expect many would want to read about his random experiences and personal philosophies.

Yet, much to his surprise, people were reading. He still blogs, and now has an enormous following on social media with well over 3 million followers.

In Still Just a Geek, Wil revisits his 2004 collection of blog posts, Just a Geek, filled with insightful and often laugh-out-loud annotated comments, additional later writings, and all new material written for this publication. The result is an incredibly raw and honest memoir, in which Wil opens up about his life, about falling in love, about coming to grips with his past work, choices, and family, and finding fulfillment in the new phases of his career. From his times on the Enterprise to his struggles with depression to his starting a family and finding his passion--writing--Wil Wheaton is someone whose life is both a cautionary tale and a story of finding one’s true purpose that should resonate with fans and aspiring artists alike.

THIS BOOK IS SO COOL!!❤️😎

First of all, I was a HUGE Will Wheaton fan in the 80's and 90's. I had the teen beat pics on my wall, and I wore the multiple watches, attempted to rip my jeans in the knee like he had in one of my favorite pics, and my family still roll their eyes when they hear his name because teenage me drove them crazy. In an interview that he gave to a teen magazine or something, he said he would wake up sometimes at night with the best plot line for a story, and he would get up and write for hours. I did the same thing! Then he started on TNG and for the life of me I could not make myself a trekkie!! it's just not my cup of tea. When he made Wilwheaton.net, I tried to follow on my sister's computer when I could, but sadly gave up because almost everything was above my head. So I grew up, and he made audiobooks which I love!! I think he is better at that than most narrators! So this brings me to his audiobook which I downloaded as soon as it came across my phone. OMG!! You can REALLY write! To learn that you felt like you did for most of your life made me look back on why I had the big crush on you. The eyes. Your eyes looked like how I felt inside as a kid and teenager. The difference in our stories is I know I had awesome parents now. Mine were still learning how to parent. But anyway, I really hope you were being honest when you said you are happy now. You have a beautiful family! You must have done something right for both boys to want to become Wheaton's! I'm not sitting here judging your life, but I am enjoying the part that you are sharing with the world. Wil, you are an awesome person, and more people genuinely love and respect you than you realize. You we're never a failure. You deserve more than you got, but you turned out smart, and learning all your lessons the hard way. I may even try the trekkie thing again. I hope all this means something! I wish you the best in your life! Oh, and you used cool just the right amount of times! Stay awesome! 😎

The harrowing journey of being Wil Wheaton

I admire Mr. Wheaton for a lot of reasons. This book served to validate all of them, while providing me with a better understanding of his journey. His triumph over abuse and his own ego is truly inspiring. His journey from "bro" to enlightened champion and ally is one we in the LGBTQIA+ community wish more folx would make. The backstories of Star Trek, Big Bang Theory and his other works do a great job of illustrating the reward and simultaneous capriciousness of the entertainment industry. I highly recommend this book if you're a fan of Mr. Wheaton and want to understand him better.

Wonderful reflection on Wil's life and Trek

I hadn't read Wheaton's first version before listening to this. If you share the same place, that shouldn't discourage you from getting this book. Wil shares a heartfelt memoir. You'll appreciate his journey from pre-Stand by Me to The Ready Room if you are a fan. Yes, it is 20 hours in length, but I never experienced a moment of regret during the time. From industry experiences to self-reflection, insights abound. Thank you Wil and Audible for an enjoyable ride.

W Delivers Yet Again!

I have been a long time fan of Wheaton as the voice for many beloved audio books.

In this performance, Wheaton shares his deepest and most personal thoughts, emotions, and experiences. His ability to shine a light on mental health and how to map a path toward healing is no less than amazing.

I offer my highest recommendation to all. This is a journey you won't want to miss!

Thank you Wil for sharing you joy as well as your pain. You are making a difference.

What a gift

Funny, compassionate, totally geeky. Wil reads his own book with special commentary just for audio ;) I have enjoyed this book so very much and am sad it’s done.

Thank you for becoming you!

A very good read. I think even better to listen to it due to the added content and the context through the author's voice.

OMG, I had no idea!

I grew up watching reruns of Star Trek TNG in he early 90's.
I knew there were some, let's call it tension, between Wil and the Star Trek community.
I rediscovered Wil as one of my favourite narrators when I started listening to audiobooks.

But Oh My God, this is a tough listen. The narration of this chronicle from a time in Wil's life where he doesn't quite know which way to go, along with sometimes funny as hell, sometimes brutally honest annotations makes this one of my all time favourite "biographies" I have ever listened to.

I have gained a whole new level of respect for Wil after spending 20+ hours in his twisted, lovely and geeky world.
If you have somebody in your life that says "well listening to an audiobook is inferior to reading it". Make them listen to this, this audiobook is simply superior to the printed version. The perfect audiobook is a stretch, but it is damned close.

Honest and Sincere

I have always been a fan of Wil Wheaton. After spending about 20 hours with him, I am even more of a fan.

As a lifelong member of the Chronic Depression Club, it thrilled me that he could be so honest with himself, as well as the rest of us. It takes a great deal of courage to publicly admit to any type of mental illness. I greatly admire him.

I highly recommend listening to this book as opposed to reading it. Hearing the words spoken by the author is an amazing experience.
