About this listen

During this savage civil war, all efforts to end Jacen Solo's tyranny of the Galactic Alliance have failed. Now, with Jacen approaching the height of his dark powers, no one - even the Solos and the Skywalkers - knows if anything can stop the Sith Lord before his plan to save the galaxy ends up destroying it.

Jacen Solo's shadow of influence has threatened many, especially those closest to him. Jaina Solo is determined to bring her brother in, but in order to track him down, she must first learn unfamiliar skills from a man she finds ruthless, repellent, and dangerous.

Meanwhile, Ben Skywalker, still haunted by suspicions that Jacen killed his mother, Mara, decides he must know the truth, even if it costs him his life. And as Luke Skywalker contemplates once unthinkable strategies to dethrone his nephew, the hour of reckoning for those on both sides draws near. The galaxy becomes a battlefield where all must face their true nature and darkest secrets, and live - or die - with the consequences.

great narration and story line

If you could sum up Star Wars in three words, what would they be?

No more abridgment

If you’ve listened to books by Karen Traviss before, how does this one compare?

This series is written well enough it it hard to distinguish between the authors. That's how it should be

Great

Boba Fett slowly feeling and expressing emotions is surprisingly refreshing and feels like a brand new character.

Climatic build up!

With one more book to go in this series, I am extremely excited to see how this ends. The Mandolorian story contained in this book changes ones view on Boba in was you would expect. Jacen character is maniacal and twisted but he had vision and is willing to do anything to see his plans through and as strong as he is in the force, the tapestry seems to be unraveling around him. Excellent book series

The Best an Abridged Version Can Be

Having the paperback, digital, and abridged audiobook (w/ soundtrack) versions of LOTF gives me a pretty well rounded opinion on the series.

Unlike w/ previous series, the abridged versions in LOTF are extremely good. Yes - there is meaningful content missing and I highly recommend reading the books. But the overall experience is smooth enough that, with the soundtrack behind it, the abridged audiobooks are an incredible experience. Having the haunting “Luke staring at the Twin Suns of Tatooine” melody play as Luke and Ben grieve for Mara Jade, the ambient sounds and snap hiss of light sabers activating, and the many other musical themes from the original score in the background - there’s enough here to make the abridgement tolerable.

Well worth the money!

Very well done for a Star Wars audiobook. Even though it is abridged, the 6 hour run-time leaves enough material to make this audiobook entertaining. That said, you can still notice gaps where, I assume, material was cut out for the abridgement. This can be annoying after a while. I won't beat around the bush, I loathe any abridgement and I would encourage people to complain to the publisher so that they will begin releasing unabridged versions of these books. Other than that, this book was excellent. Marc Thompson is one of the most talented narrators that I have heard. It is a pleasure to listen to him. The different character voices that he assumes throughout the book are executed flawlessly and I had to keep reminding myself that it was the same person speaking. The writing, sound production, and music were all top notch. I would give this 5 stars if not for the abridgement.

One last thing, stay away from any of the star wars audiobooks that are less than 6 hours in length. They are so butchered by the abridgements, that they are not worth your time or money. Quite a few of these are narrated by Anthony Heald and he is just plain awful. I found this out the hard way. Just remember, Anthony Heald = extremely poor narration. Jonathan Davis = Extremely good narration. Marc Thompson = Outstanding narration.

A High Point for a Good Series

With Darth Caedus finally beginning to embrace his Sith Lord status in the open and his sister, Jaina Solo seeking some unusual training, Revelation is a welcome respite from unrelenting action, offering depth and heart leading up to the series finale.

With prominent spotlights on character growth and development, Karen Traviss delivers several "gut-punch" emotional moments, as well as glorious scenes that will make true fans want to cheer in their seats!

As a special note [LIGHT SPOILERS to follow], this book gives heart and soul to Boba Fett and his Mandalorian people. Spending a good deal of time with Fett, his family, and his culture brings forth an explicable affection for an inexplicably famous character.

Alongside introducing a warrior jocularity in the form of Mandalorians, and the swaths of personal development amongst the core cast of characters, this book tempers down the action of war in favor of intrigue. That is, until the climax of this novel, wherein commences the most heartbreaking moment of the entire series, in the midst of the best-written space battle ever put to paper.
