About this listen

NASA engineer Dr. Jackie Darling Lee is a genius about many things...the male species is not one of them (despite the many cowboy romances she reads).

Then a little friendly blackmail from a co-worker has Jackie walking into a Texas saloon ready to initiate "Operation Social Life". After making friends with her waitress and helping a drunk country beauty get home safely, she thinks she’s off to a good start.

Flynn West left his family’s rich ranching life behind after discovering his girlfriend’s gold digging ways. Now he specializes in vintage muscle car restorations in his own shop in Houston.

He’s taken women off his radar, until a wild-haired blonde drags his drunk little sister through his front door. The moment he sees those thick, black-framed glasses on that slender nose, Flynn’s captivated. Ignitions ignite, and not just from Flynn’s skills at hot-wiring cars.

But in the midst of the International Space Station being threatened and old flames reappearing, can Jackie and Flynn let go of old hang-ups long enough to reach the end of their happily ever after countdown?

Or will it be a failure to launch?

Unexpected Gem!

Another unexpected gem. This was an author that I'd never heard of, and I was excited to read it based on the catchy cover/title as well as what sounded like a unique-ish plot. The book was very well written and I enjoyed the humor and intelligence of the characters. I listened to the audio book and was also pleased by the narration, done by two narrators I'd never heard of but would be happy to listen to again, they were great.

Holy Mercury!

Holy Mercury! This is such a cute and fun book, especially if you're on the geekier side! I love reading about women in STEM careers because it's something we hardly see in romance books. Jackie is super cute and awkward and I love how she feels she doesn't need to change for Flynn. We also get to see Flynn's heart grow in more ways than just loving Jackie. All the characters in this book were super fun and I can't wait to read more about them in the rest of the books! Samantha Brentmoor and Lee Samuels made these amazing characters come to life perfectly!

THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF: You're a fan of geeky girls and the hunky guys who fall for them.

Funny and Refreshing

This was well written and performed so well. I was so impressed with the author. Previously a NASA employee, this was a great read.

Cute but a lot of technical info

Sometimes all the technical jargon gets in the way of the story. It is a cute story though.

Hot nerd alert and secret billionaire mechanic

While I typically don't enjoy insecure female characters, Jackie's personal growth was enjoyable to "see". Being a scientist myself, I enjoyed the way Jackie's thought process was portrayed and this book provided a good picture of NASA.

Flynn, the mechanic keeping his family wealth a secret was incredibly likeable. His pursuit of Jackie was endearing. While overall the story didn't have too much drama, I found the characters judging their potential romance based on one bad previous relationship each a bit frustrating as it's a common theme in many stories that I just don't know how realistic it actually is.

Overall, the book was a fun listen. This was my first time listening to both this author and Samantha Brentmoor. I will definitely look for other books by both.

Really liked this story.

This was a fun story. Interesting look into NASA, though sometimes the trivia became a little tedious. The narrators did a great job but I generally prefer a single POV and a single narrator.

Perfectly Adorkable!

I have had this in my TBR forever, and finally broke down and used an entire credit on it. I’m so glad I did and I’m so glad it lived up to the value of a full credit. This is a new to me author. I will have to read all the things now. I love that she had Lee Samuels narrate. I feel he is way underused and is amazing. He’s got a nice growl to his voice. I don’t know this female narrator well Samantha Brentwood, but she did fantastic. You could distinctly go between all the different characters. I hope all the side characters get a story. Because I am here for it. I love books that have super smart and socially awkward characters in it. If you have ever known a genius type person common sense isn’t their thing it’s all about logic. I love that the male character Flynn embraces her brains and is actually turned on when she goes on a smart rant. There is nothing hotter than a burly man who loves a smart woman. He totally gets her. I love that he helps her to become more confident in who she is. I also adore that she never hesitates to continue pursuing her dreams. That is a powerful thing. This was not only cute but still wicked hot. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

So much more than the reviews!

I usually don’t write reviews, I just number the stars, no pun intended, but this book was so much more than I thought it was going to be. I was expecting light and fluffy, and it definitely has it’s share of humor. But it is one of the most interesting romances I have read/heard, and I can’t wait to experience the remaining three books. There isn’t a dull second in this book, and the information about the ISS is mind boggling, while still being exciting, romantic, and just plain emotional . The narrations are great, with one exception; as a retired airline employee, I wish that Samantha Brentmoor knew how to pronounce “altimeter” correctly!:)

Smart and Sexy Romance!

I loved this audiobook! The story was smart and sexy, and I loved the whole cast of characters. Jackie is a brilliant, yet awkward NASA engineer who goes off on tangents of random facts/knowledge when she’s nervous (they were both informative and entertaining). I loved that Jackie wears glasses and loves cowboy romances and all things Space Age! Flynn is a hot mechanic dealing with family issues and an awful breakup/ex-girlfriend, but he is great at making Jackie feel comfortable. The chemistry and the development of the relationship between Jackie and Flynn were great and realistic. I liked that Flynn really wanted to get to know Jackie and draw her out of her shell. All of the NASA/space and car details were interesting and made the story feel authentic. The supporting characters – Jules (the astronaut), Trish (the bartender friend), Rose (Flynn’s sister), Ian (Jackie’s coworker), and Holt (Flynn’s brother) - were also awesome! I am hoping to listen to their love stories in the future!

The narration was fantastic! Samantha Brentmoor was great as Jackie, capturing all of her intelligence and insecurity, and Lee Samuels was wonderful as Flynn, especially when calls Jackie “darlin’”.

Overall, this book was a unique, fun listen and I will definitely be listening to future audiobooks by Sara L. Hudson!
