About this listen

Times are rough for Max and Sandra. They've lost their income, live in a trailer, and struggle to make ends meet - all due to the resurrected Tucker Hull. To make matters worse, the ghost detective, Marshall Drummond, refuses to move on and resides in their trailer.

Barely able to afford food, they are desperate to get back on their feet. So, when Max's sole client is murdered in the mysterious Baxter House, he knows they've reached the breaking point. And there's only one way out - push on through.

Max, Drummond, and Sandra will face secret societies, stolen gold, hidden codes, the darkest magic, and of course, the Hulls. The only question - will they live through it all?

Mixing real North Carolina history with ghosts, witches, magic, and more, Southern Gothic continues the supernatural thrills and mystery you've come to expect from Max Porter.

Love the extra suspense in the story

What made the experience of listening to Southern Gothic the most enjoyable?

Each chapter has more suspense

What was one of the most memorable moments of Southern Gothic?

The addition of Cissily Hall as the only female relitives of the Hall but that the family still does not want to accept her as the matriarch

Have you listened to any of Stuart Jaffe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to some othe narration by Stuart Jaffe and find that this is every bit as good as the preceding.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book did make me laugh on several occasions

Any additional comments?

The story centers around Cal Backster the Backster house and the lost Hall gold.
The addition of Cissily Hall is fascinating, although she is a woman of the Hall family she is every bit as ruthless as the men. Trying to find the Gold, Max, Sarah and Drummond face a lot of unforeseen events. The story always keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to hear more. The Max Porter series is a must have

STAY FAR AWAY

This guy must have 33 people who really love him to buy and give his book 5 stars. I don't know him, so I'm going to be honest so no one else wastes their credits on this disappointment.

Concepts: promising and exciting!
Execution: dull at best, frustrating at worst.

Ready to listen to a book where as soon as exciting things start to happen, the main character leaves and does something boring, not even acknowledging the cool thing that happened EVER again? Then this book is for you.
