Acerca de esta escucha

Not only do Southerners talk slowly, but sometimes the whole language is hard to understand. No one realizes that more than Memphis belle Leelee Satterfield. Since she debuted in Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter, Leelee has entertained tens of thousands of listeners. Watching her tackle life and love in Vermont was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to antics, charades, mischief, and romance. Now that she’s back in Memphis, and starting a new relationship with Peter, the Yankee chef from her New England inn, you’d think she’d sit back and enjoy her newly crafted life back home in Dixie. But that just wouldn’t be as much fun.

Opening up a new restaurant with Peter isn’t as easy as she had anticipated, especially when it comes to the differences between the North and the South. When Leelee’s ex-husband, Baker, returns unexpectedly, everything else goes haywire. Throw her three crazy best friends into the mix; Riley, her meddlesome next-door neighbor who sells Pampered Chef for a living; and Kissie, Leelee’s beloved second mother who claims Riley sits on her “last raw nerve,” and you have the perfect recipe for a sassy, Southern delicacy.

Lisa Patton's Southern as a Second Language is an endearing and chuckle-inducing tale that keeps us guessing up to the very last page how it all works out in the end. Whether among maple trees in Vermont or magnolia-filled Memphis, Leelee’s charm, heart, and laughter will delight listeners in any climate.

I enjoyed the story, but was very disappointed in the narration. The narrator had the southern drawl down pat, but the voice of the northerners and Kissy were terrible. Narration of the first two books was great. I'm disappointed in the change.

Narration

I listened to books 1 & 2 and loved the performance. Unfortunately this book was not done by same person, it was tough to listen. The accents from the North were horrible and her voice irritating. Lisa should stick to writing

Performance Disappointing

I enjoyed the first two books so naturally I wanted to see how the story ended. It was difficult to get through this one because the narrator was not a joy to listen to. Bless her heart!

Not my favorite

Enjoyed the book light hearted and fun but poor Patrick’s accent made him sound nothing like a handsome Yankee he was supposed to be. Hard to listen to him to talk.

Sad yankee

With the change in narration, continuity is lost. I feel like I dont know the characters anymore... everyone sounds like a bucket of whiney-pants!! Lisa, you're a great writer and I will continue to love and read everything you publish with relish!! But, please don't narrate anymore of your books... you don't have a storyteller's talent to captivate your audience ...in fact according to the multiple reviews I've read and my own experience, you are just downright irritating!! Now put down that microphone and go write us a wonderful hilarious down home story...Bless your heart...love and hugs.

I am trying so hard to tolerate the narration

I loved the first two books (which were included in my membership). I saw the third was available for purchase and I was looking forward to continuing the story. The narration was almost unbearable but I struggled through hoping it would get better, it did not. She absolutely slaughtered Peter and kissy. I would strongly recommend having the narrator who did the first two do this one as well.

Narrator was just awful!

I absolutely LOVED the first two books and the narrator. There is no feeling and it is being read not narrated. If this book was narrated by the person who did the first two it would be 5 stars all the way across the board. I love her books but please have a professional narrate the next time…

I would have happily paid for the first 2 books in this series, but this one sounds like nails on a chalkboard. The writing is fun and clever, but even LeLe becomes a bit of a drip half way through. Every time Riley entered the story, I wanted to exchange this Audible book. The lisp and LeLe putting up with this irritating neighbor were just excruciating. The Northern voices were a mixture of southern and confusion. Waited for Peter to start calling LeLe “Doll” and pull out a machine gun at any moment. Kissy, Roberta and Jeb sounded like the cast of Grease the movie with bad Southern Coney Island accents. If this is what Patton thinks Northerners sound like, she should not cross the Mason Dixon Line again.
Read the book this time and skip the torture. Shame on Lisa Patton’s Editor and Publisher for allowing this book to be produced for Audible Listeners.

I love this series so much but although still a great story, was a little disappointed in the author narrating. The inflections in southern, northern, French, and Jersey voices was a little off and Kissy was not done justice. That being said, I'll still dive into Lisa Patton's books. They're full of mental imagery along with charming characters.
