About this listen

An i09 Pick

The civil war is over, but the struggle for power is just beginning!

In the aftermath of a devastating civil war, America has fallen into anarchy and chaos. Los Angeles is divided into different territories controlled by criminal organizations. Don Antonio Moretti has won a slice of the pie, but is hungry for more. In his quest for power, he sends his nephew and a small crew to Mexico to negotiate a new deal for their staple product, while the don returns to Italy for some unfinished business.

While the crime families battle for power in LA, Dominic Salvatore and his elite team at the LAPD fight tirelessly to stem the rot. But their fight often seems futile in a force rife with corruption. Dom's father Ronaldo is a deputy fighting to secure the border, but when intel arises about his missing daughter, he leaves Los Angeles for the desert wastes - to find her and bring her home.

To the Morettis and the Salvatores, family is everything, and they will protect their own, no matter the cost.

Amazing as usual

I swear. All of NSS books are off the wall amazing!!! I absolutely love the way he can put an entire story together and just keep you wanting more. There’s not many authors out there that can have a series of 4-11 books that just keep you invested the entire time! Thank you NSS!!

Don Antonio is not giving up any ground

This second installment of the series is better than the first book, and that is a rare thing. The Moretti family and their thirst for power and revenge makes for an action packed and engaging story from start to finish.

I cannot wait for book 3 to see who ends up in their cross-hairs next.

NSS does it again!!!

What a great eat follow up to the first SOW book. NSS does what he does best and keeps you wanting more. I hate to see some characters go sometimes but he always does it to set up something great later on.

Great and scary

A great story with a fantastic narrator and when you listen to it compared to what's going on today, it's scary to think about what might happen to our society. That being said, I can't wait for the next story, just hate it won't be until February.

I don't know how Smith does it. This is another homerun. Combining mafia and civil war in an action packed and believable way. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

hooked!

I like the story, post apocalyptic drama intrigues me. It seems to be a more likely than not scenario these days. As always I love the way Ray Porter reads a book. I think he's got a great voice for it and quite frankly I'm jealous.

Different from Extinction but in a good way

This is a well written book that explores the darker side of humanity under crisis situations including the good, the bad and the organized crime syndicates. While I am not an expert on organized crime this series is just as action packed as other series by the writer who has a great grasp of plot and character development. This is evident in how he captures personality in speech patterns. As always Blackstone audio rocks bringing the books to life with excellent voice characterization and acting... truly top shelf you will not be disappointed.

Non stop gut punch.

Convoluted as heck, THANK YOU! I love the way that these characters fold into eachother's timeliness with effortless mayhem. Very entertaining and edge of your seat.

Ray Porter is, well, Ray Porter, fabulous as always 👏🏼
